Did you complete the Census? |

The Census Bureau announced it will be accelerating its data collection. Census data collection will now conclude on September 30 (previously October 31).
Completing the census provides the Village with funding opportunities for the next 10 years.

Federal & State Grant Programs |
|
In times of crisis there are federal and state aid grants/programs available to municipalities that reimburse certain expenses related to the crisis. |
|
The Village is currently working towards obtaining reimbursements for expenses incurred due to Isaias, COVID-19, and although the Village has already been reimbursed for a portion of its Irma related expenses, we continue to work on finalizing the process for Irma reimbursements. |

School's in Session. Watch Out for Children Crossing! |
|
We would like to remind everyone that although all schools are not open, several of our private schools are open and children are once again, cycling, walking, and taking other modes of transportation to attend classes. Our crossing guards are hard at work assisting police officers in keeping our children safe. Remember it is against the law to hold a device in your hand in any school zone. Police will be enforcing these safety laws with zero tolerance. Lets have a great school year and please keep our children and families safe.

To learn more about the VKB Resilience G.O. Bond, the Key Biscayne community is invited to join the Village in a series of educational virtual Town Halls hosted by Village Manager Andrea Agha and Village staff. The third Town Hall will be held September 3, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. where financial facts and figures about the G.O. Bond will be presented to the public.

29th Anniversary of Hurricane Andrew |

On August 24th, 1992, Hurricane Andrew struck South Florida. On August 24, 2005, Hurricane Katrina took shape out in the Atlantic. Both storms impacted our area! Hurricane Andrew, at the time, was one of the worst natural disasters in the history of hurricanes. As we reflect on our history, remember we are approaching the peak of hurricane season. Just last Friday, we were in the 5-day cone for a tropical storm. Key Biscayne, needs to be prepared, and we must stay ready! Assure you have your evacuation plan in order. Tech Help Wednesdays for Seniors |

Online and virtual programs have been essential during these challenging times. The Key Biscayne Community Center in partnership with the Key Biscayne Community Foundation is helping Key Biscayne seniors stay connected and engaged by offering personalized tech help at home.
Leo Quintana, a bilingual instructor, will provide up to 2 hours of free set-up and instruction to help our older residents:
- Chat and email with friends and family
- Enjoy virtual classes and activities through Zoom
- Navigate the special features of their personal devices (phone, computer, tablet, laptop)
- Learn best practices for security
Please note you must be a KB resident age 55 or older to participate in this program.

Key Biscayne Community Center:
Appointments for Passport Application are Available!

The Key Biscayne Community Center will resume the acceptance of U.S. passport applications starting on Wednesday, September 2nd. The service will be offered on a limited basis by appointment only on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Rules, downloadable forms, fees, travel advisories and other information are available at the U.S. Department of State’s passport website. Applicants must bring their completed forms, pictures, and copies of the required documents to the appointment. Facial coverings are mandatory. For additional information, please click here. You can apply at an acceptance facility or renew by mail now, but unless you have a life-or-death emergency, you will experience delays before receiving your passport and the return of your citizenship documents such as previous passports, and birth and naturalization certificates. Hurricane Season Isn't Over |
Seeing the aftermath coming out of the Northeastern United States is evidence that South Florida dodged a bullet with Hurricane Isaias. However, we are expecting more storms before the end of Hurricane season. The Key Biscayne Police Department asks that you have a plan in place, stock up on essentials ahead of storms, and have an evacuation plan. Remember, we are also navigating a pandemic, and shelters cannot reach maximum capacity. In the event of a mandatory evacuation, you should prepare an alternative approach to safely evacuate the Village. If you have questions on how to prepare for a hurricane during a pandemic, visit the CDC website.

Miami-Dade County Solar Co-op Open to New Members |
Are you interested in going solar? Miami-Dade is one of the few counties in Florida that has a formal solar co-op run by Solar United Neighbors. A solar co-op is a unique way to capture competitive pricing among other advantages. The co-op is presently open to residents of Miami-Dade County and the co-op closes to new members on September 30, 2020.
