"IMAGES" PHOTOGRAPHIC ART GALLERY
Newsletter
SEPTEMBER  2020
" Framed! "

Dear friends,

Welcome to my "PHOTOBLOG" Newsletter, a monthly publication which is being sent to clients and friends, to keep them updated on my current photographic interests, new works and future developments.

My goal has been to format the Newsletter around a short series of images, which I will try to describe briefly, so that important or interesting details will be easily available to the viewer.

Most of the imagery displayed here will also be on view at " IMAGES" Photographic Art Gallery, located at 14406 Detroit Avenue in beautiful Downtown Lakewood, and I would be happy to extend to all an invitation to stop by sometime for a visit.

As always, I will appreciate your comments and suggestions pertaining to my work, and, should you enjoy these images, please feel free to share the"PHOTOBLOG" with friends and others as well; anyone interested in my work could be easily added to my distribution list by contacting me at  [email protected]

or  by visiting at  www.mellinophotography.com.

As an artist, it is always so rewarding to be able to establish a successful visual "dialog" with viewers and ultimately reach the point when someone will happily decide to bring "home" one of my works! I have often noticed that a given piece will suddenly "speak" to a person for reasons at times unknown to me, but always very meaningful to the viewer who finds a personal connection perhaps related to past emotional or physical experiences, or simply related to memories of prior events.
The current series is presenting a number of prints all of which were FRAMED and previously on view  on the walls of IMAGES Art Gallery or at various exhibits and shows in town, and ultimately purchased by an appreciative art collector...
The process of choosing an image to be printed and "framed" is typically quite long and difficult for me, since so much needs to coincide in order to reach the magical moment when an image derived from an abstract idea finally acquires a life of its own as a new palpable creation.
I sincerely hope you will appreciate the current selections; some of these might be known to you already, or they might even be hanging on a wall of your home...but, as always, I thank you for your attention and interest in my work, particularly in these difficult days of confusion and sad realizations.
Enjoy!

" Framed! "

An almost surreal view of Lake Erie, part of my original " mesmERIEized " series, is the top image; it is the "SPRING" of the Four Seasons set commissioned a few years ago by the Clifton Club, currently displayed in the bar area. Below, two "R" CYC sail boats race images, both printed on canvas and purchased during last year Christmas Season.
The opening image is of the Tuscan country side wine region, one of many large prints elegantly framed for "Sorrento", a well known restaurant in Sheffield, Ohio. Below, the "Red Barn" seen in the Metro Park.
" Framed! "
"Via Mazzini", a tortuous, narrow street photographed at an old Italian mountain top village, with wonderful shadows and a flash of light over the uneven cobble stone steps; below, a CLE. view from across the Cuyahoga River, printed in B&W with an unconventional process.
I was totally fascinated by the texture and the "chiaroscuro" effects of the Italian Basilic ceiling, dating back to the Roman times, and still in use today! Several prints of this image have been framed and purchased over the last few years at various venues.

This poignant Florida beach image, part of the " Driftwood" series, is one of my all time favorite, with an incredible sky and clouds about to bring a sudden Summer storm; its first print won an award at the annual Porter Library juried Art Show 5 years ago, and it never came back to my Gallery!
Below, a lone woman looking out at the water in Lakewood Park; I still see this print hanging at a friend's home near by...

Nothing better than a Tribe game on a warm Summer evening! As I remember, they won that game last season; a very loyal Indians fan took this one home!
Below, "Reflection of care" was commissioned years ago by the Lakewood Hospital Foundation, and presented to all its retiring Board Members; the image shows a close- up view of a detail of the entrance doors of the 1906 Lakewood Hospital original section, with over imposed reflections of nearby buildings and bare trees.

" Rose buds" caught the eye of a novel grandfather a while ago, to be gifted to little Rose, their new baby!
"The last picnic", a Fall moment at the Clifton Beach, also printed as a note card along with other Lake images; they have became a beautiful set, which I need to reprint soon!
The last image is from the Rockwell Springs Trout Club in Castalia, taken during a successful fishing trip...a print  proudly hangs in the home office of a Club member.

" Laundry day", from Bagnaia, north of Rome; printed and commissioned several times.

A frozen Lake with such interesting ice creations, a gift of Nature to us Ohioans!

The little crab coming out of the water was looking very intently at me as I was taking her picture; it now belongs to a West Side client.

Two images from Calcata, a small hill top village once a "ghost town" East of Rome, commissioned last Spring by a client, thus becoming very large canvas art works for her home, a great memory of a prior trip to Italy. Every visit to Calcata predictably produces for me wonderful images to share...the place is simply magical!
In between, a very dramatic local sun set, one of many I have captured from my backyard, never tired to see more!

A sail boat returning to his mooring, as a storm approaches; I took this image along the shores of Lake Bracciano. The reflection of the sail on the still calm waters is magical to me, as it is to the collector who took this one home...

"IMAGES" Art Gallery is open to the public, bus mostly by appointment, given the restrictions and the challenges we are all dealing with these days; please be reassured that all is being done to maintain a very safe environment during your visit, which we would encourage you to schedule by getting in touch with us at your convenience. Much new photographic and other art inventory remains on view on our walls for your visual pleasure; we are also available to help you frame or re-frame art pieces you might have recently discovered at your home during these long "quarantine" months, to let you complete your new home decorating project!

In the meantime, please stay well and safe, keep busy and soon we'll be again able to meet and be "social"!
