Artist Statement
As a kid, many of my weekends were spent outside in a suburb of Dallas, Texas. I grew up playing in this odd boundary of society, filled with houses-in-progress and empty lots of wild countryside yet to be landscaped. To me these houses felt out of time, an empty site that seemed like an abandoned ruin.

My work explores the intersection between figuration and abstraction, using constructions sites and landscapes on the edges of suburban society. Each painting reveals the abstract geometric forms and light shapes a house contains while under construction. My use of many different media and construction based tools mirrors the many different stages a house goes through.

Every image is also a collection of experiences, memories, emotions. The image I paint describes the world as I choose perceive it - perspective in each image shifts, showing the world through my tall perspective or changing it to show what I might have seen as a child crouching through these small spaces. I hope to give the spectator a view into this moment, bridging the gap between observation of the world and contemplation of something lost to memory.
