PRIORITIES
“....Those who are wise will find a time and a way to do what is right, for there is a time and a way for everything, even when a person is in trouble.”
Eccl. 8:5+6 NLT

Have you ever had one of those days when there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to complete everything that you need to get done? It feels like I keep having more and more days like that! Just when you feel you have a moment to breathe, something else comes along to fill that time. When something important comes up, and you feel you need to get it done in a hurry, it just doesn’t work out right. Yikes! Now, what are we to do?
We know that the Bible tells us to, “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Ps. 46:10). When are we supposed to have time for that!? Our lives seem to be running at an ever-quickening, hectic pace. It would appear that we humans are trying to keep pace with technology, but that won’t work. We were not made to be like that. We need to take time to be human. We need to take time to be who we are truly meant to be.

I like the reminder that music wouldn’t sound right without the pauses known as rests. Even when we are at rest, our bodies and brains are still at work. We need time to rest, to restore and refresh our minds and bodies so that they will function properly.

We can get some good advice from the Bible. Many references to time are about focusing on God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. How is that supposed to help? Ironically, when we take time to focus our attention upward, in a heavenly direction, we often receive the peace that allows us to function more efficiently. It allows us to prioritize, “a way to do what is right” first. Then, many other things that need to be accomplished seem to fall into place.

Almighty God, You accomplished a lot of work in 6 days, but you rested on the 7th day. Help us to remember that, we too, need time to rest. Help us to remember that when we need to prioritize tasks, our first task is to turn our eyes towards You for your grace that enables us to do and be our best. Amen!
