Faculty and staff worked with whirlwind speed to coordinate bags for each student with their belongings, materials, lessons etc. to facilitate remote learning. Bags were picked up from the school parking lot yesterday afternoon and remote learning began this morning.

From Jennifer Page's letter to current families 3/17/2020:
...Just as Waldorf education was revolutionary 100 years ago in its purpose and pedagogy, so it is today. 100 years ago, Rudolf Steiner hoped to remedy the ravages of World War I on education and society through a pedagogy that was designed to meet the developing child. The decisions of what to teach, when to teach, and how to teach were grounded in that purpose.
Today we are also faced with a crisis, the ultimate impact of which we can only imagine. 100 years ago, the first teachers had to actively and creatively engage with Waldorf pedagogy in order to educate the specific children who sat before them. Similarly, our teachers have been tasked with applying their creative efforts and pedagogical insights in this uncertain time. I have been humbled by the dedication of our teachers over this past week, and I am all the more grateful for our school. In addition to discussing how to best teach their lessons, the teachers have considered the social needs of their students – the impact of isolation – and how to address those needs in the coming weeks. They have also considered the challenges you as parents will face, and how they can partner with you effectively....
I want to express gratitude for our tireless administrative team. The efforts of administrative folks are often not visible, but their work provides essential support to our teachers....
Thank you, parents, for your flexibility, partnership, and resilience as we enter this new educational experience.

Bulletin "Community Messages"
|
|
Starting next week, we'd like to try a new section of the Bulletin called "Community Messages." This can be a note of thanks, an encouragement, or perhaps just a different way to share a moment or connect with others. It could even be an a reminder of an inside joke or something fun in code. Messages can be addressed to the whole community, to a group or class, or to individuals.
- Messages should be 250 characters or less.
- Send your messages to agoodyear@washingtonwaldorf.org with the subject line: "Bulletin Community Message"
- You may include a photo.
- Depending on how many we receive, we may have to limit the number published per week.

Continuing our celebration of March as Women’s History Month, this week we highlight the contributions of women who were fighting for suffrage on two fronts, reaching to surmount both sexism and racism in pursuit of their right as Americans to vote in elections. This
recent article from AARP
highlights, among others, Maryland suffragettes Augusta T. Chissell (pictured) and Margaret Gregory Hawkins who were recently honored for their contributions in organizing for voting rights. As we celebrate the centennial of women's suffrage we remember those who fought racism as well, sometimes from within the suffrage movement itself. We honor the work of those who fight for equality and representation on all fronts.

Now that we have started remote learning, today was the day that the 6th graders finally got their Pi Day math class assignment!
It's not too late to bake a pie and celebrate!

and designer of our school logo, etc.) as they make a berry ginger pie that celebrates the digits of Pi in honor of Pi Day.

We welcome submissions of community news, items for sale, want ads, etc. Please keep notices to 500 characters or less. Listings will likely be edited. Please
submit listings
by COB Tuesdays with the subject "Bulletin Submission." Bulletin Board notices generally run for 3 weeks - if space allows - unless other arrangements have been made. There is no charge for listings.

GoFundMe Campaign for Praline Staff Victim of Gun Violence
There has been an outpouring of emotion and a desire to respond as our community has learned that
Blanca Coreas, who works at Praline Bakery down the street from WWS, was the victim of gun violence last Saturday. Her teenage son and his friend were killed and Blanca was severely injured by an unknown assailant. Blanca is in the hospital.
