Brockton Business Newsletter - July 20, 2022
Join the Walkerton Summer Streetfest on Friday!
Walkerton businesses are invited to participate in the Walkerton Summer Streetfest this Friday, July 22th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the downtown core.

Durham Street will remain open to traffic, but a section of Colborne Street will be closed, between the library and Godfather's Pizza, for family activities.

Municipal staff will be setting up tents and tables for downtown businesses that previously requested them, starting at 8 a.m. on Friday. But please note that ALL businesses are invited to take part! Restaurants may offer specials (Aborviate Holistic Apothecary is making Streetfest Smoothies, for example), and retailers may display merchandise up to 3 feet in front of their business, so long as the sidewalk remains accessible to all pedestrians, including those with mobility devices, strollers, etc.

Activities for the public are encouraged, and we appreciate the businesses that have already committed to some Streetfest fun, such as Axe N Gear Music (live music and a firetruck), Roc N Duke's Doggie Tasting Bar, a lemonade stand at Essential Wellness, Luxus Dekor's oil and vinegar tasting (with Simply Deli-cious freshly baked bread for dipping), and Summer Sounds Booth courtesy of A&R Music.

Please let your customers know there's lots going on! You'll hear live music on Durham Street from Dave Schmidt and his band, from noon to 3 pm., and kids activities all day, including clowning, ice cream, games and balloons, on Colborne Street.

And have you heard? There will be a frigid ice-tub challenge with Councillor James Lang at our newest business, For the Love of Ice, to raise money for our local hospice campaign. That's at 3 p.m., on VIctoria Street behind Roc N Duke's. Let's hope for sunshine!

New Community Improvement Plan: Have Your Say
The Municipality is updating its Community Improvement Plan (CIP) for Brockton, which will enable it to offer more grants for business owners looking to improve their properties.
Brockton already offers a Facade Improvement Program under its CIP to help businesses fund new signage, awnings, painting, brickwork, windows, doors, and other types of facade improvements.
The updated CIP proposes to add new funding streams, and expand coverage of certain programs to a much broader area, including Chepstow, Elmwood, Cargill, Walkerton and Pinkerton -- in some cases, the entire municipality.
The new CIP will include funding for signage, facade improvements, conversion or revitalization of vacant or underused buildings, energy conservation measures, accessibility improvements, and farm gates.
The Municipality will hold a Public Meeting to review the updated CIP on Tuesday, Aug. 9th, at 7 p.m. through Zoom. Please email fhamilton@brockton.ca if you would like to contribute to the discussion, or submit written comments. Click here for the Notice of Public Meeting
