Kids Meet a Cancer Survivor
Day 14: Helping and healing. Understanding what people experience when they get sick or are battling a disease is an important part of building empathy. Today, we invite your family to think about the ways we can support people who may be experiencing an illness and staying at the hospital. Watch this video of 8 year old Kira, as her peers interview her about overcoming cancer.

In her interview, Kira talks about the different emotions she felt while she was sick - she was sometimes scared, sad, and bored while receiving treatment. She also talks about the importance of fun and connecting with others. Now is an important time to show care and compassion to people who are receiving medical treatment. Showing up as a community (even from home!) can help people feel supported through their journey to wellness.
Let's Talk
After watching Kira's interview, use the questions below to kick-start a great conversation with your family:

  • What stood out to you about Kira's story? Do you and Kira have anything in common?

  • What makes you feel better or supported when you're not feeling well?

  • Why is it important to show care and compassion for people who are experiencing an illness?

  • Bonus! How do you combat boredom? Brainstorm some boredom busters to share with friends and family.

Self Care Check-In
If you're looking for a sign, this is it. Honeycomb families constantly amaze us by how generous and motivated they are to give back to our community. Today, taking care of others starts with taking care of YOU! We challenge you, our hive of change-makers, to take some time to check in with yourselves.

What does your mind need to be happy and healthy? What does your body need? Make a list of 3 things you can do today to take care of you.

No self care practice is too big or too small. Give yourself a hug, snuggle up with your favorite book, or take a bubble bath. Breathe. Whatever self-care looks like to you is the right thing to do today.
Our city needs your support! By purchasing some of our Honeycomb at Home loungewear, you help us spread the magic of volunteering throughout our city. Every $100 we raise provides free programming to a new local family. We so appreciate your support Order now!
Community Connections
La Rabida Children's Hospital
Bring spring cheer to pediatric patients! For children receiving medical treatment, this time of social distancing is especially difficult. Celebrate the the change of seasons and springtime holidays by creating uplifting artwork for patients staying at La Rabida Children's Hospital.

It's time to get creative with this project! Send us your spring time drawings, poems, collages, and more to decorate patients' rooms at La Rabida. Your drawings help to show community support and brighten the days of kids and families staying at the hospital.

Please send all decorations virtually to Sydney ! We'll compile the decorations and send them to our friends at La Rabida. Please refrain from writing things like "get well" and focus on bringing the positivity of spring to patients at the hospital. Your joy and artistry are appreciated!

La Rabida serves approximately 7,500 children every year and specializes in treatment of chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities, abuse and trauma. The hospital and its staff prioritize making the hospital a welcoming and supportive place for patients and their families while they receive expert treatment and care. Thank you for brightening the hallways for patients, families, and medical staff to enjoy!
