Hello Providers,
Happy New Year! Child Care Aware of NH powered by Southern New Hampshire Services would like to celebrate 2021 with you. Below you will find a link to our 2020 Year in Review Video. This year's video certainly captures the changes that 2020 brought with it. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as us!
Child Care Aware of NH already has professional development opportunities in place for 2021. On January 23rd, the Keys to Quality E-Conference will be held. Then on January 30th, we have a Special Event, Classroom Management: Successful Encounters with Scott Noyes.
Our Training and TA Specialists are ready to go to support providers in 2021. We are offering Early Childhood Focused Collaboratives, trainings, Special Events, our E-Conference as well as Cohorts. Also don't forget, you can now apply to be a Progressive Training and TA Program at any time. See below for more details about all of our professional development opportunities.
The Child Care Resource and Referral Outreach Specialists have spent a lot of time supporting program administrators/providers with the new NH Child Care Search Portal. They continue to assist directors in gaining access to the new system as well as provide referrals to families seeking child care and helping families with remote learning options.
We have some exciting news to share with you! We are happy to announce new online professional development opportunities through Pro-Solutions, coming soon. See below for more information about these opportunities.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do for families and children. We hope that you enjoy this month's edition of Monthly Minutes.

Monthly Health and Safety Topics

January 2020 is National Radon Action Month!
During January, participate in "living green". According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a big part of "living green" is breathing clean, healthy indoor air.
Below are videos and resources for important safety information:
During January, we also experience winter weather. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, winter storms and cold temperatures can be dangerous. Stay safe and healthy by planning ahead; prepare your homes and cars; prepare for power outages and outdoor activity. Check in on older adults.

Resources to Share with Families

January is National Bath Safety Month
Here are some tips to keep little ones safe during their bath time.
"Stay with your child. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children four and under always have a parent or caregiver present when they are near water, including the tub. Accidents can happen in an instant.
Prevent slips. Young children do not have the coordination or strength to hold steady if they lose their balance. Affix a slip-resistant plastic mat that suctions to the bottom of the tub and make sure the throw rug outside the tub does not slide when stepped on. Consider installing a grab bar for kids to hold onto when stepping in and out of the bath.
Test the temperature. Always wait until the tub is finished filling up before placing your child in the water, as the temperature can change. Set your home's water heater to deliver water no hotter than 120 degrees to lower the risk of scalding. If you don't have control over the heater, buy an anti-scald device that attaches to the faucet.
Beware of sharp edges. Use a rubber cover for the faucet head and drape a towel over metal rails for shower doors when your child is in the bath. Make sure any glass shower doors are made of shatterproof glass. Avoid bath toys with hard edges or points that could be hazardous if your child falls onto them."
