Greetings Main Street Friends!

Summer Recap:

Ah, summer! The sun is shining, the flowers have bloomed, and Leadville is buzzing with life! Our cozy mountain home has thawed out, people have broken out their sunscreen and sandals, and the Main Street Program's Summer shenanigans are in full swing!

Our Board and other organizations have been partnering on a few building projects throughout town, including the new Parklet at the Visitor's Center that Main Street and partners have been working vigorously on, which now has barricades and fencing up, and the renovation of the Herald Democrat building, which has been given a well needed face lift tanks to the City's support and DOLA/COM's Main Street Open For Business Grant.

We've been getting our tans on with some Summer events as well! Leadville Lake County's Community Clean Up brought in close to 200 volunteers that helped pick up trash off our streets, sidewalks, and trails. Main Street and Leadvillain Music also hosted our first of three music events for our "Summer Nights at Zaitz" series, and we were happy to see so many people get in on the fun and dance the night away!

With clean sidewalks and streets, Main Street also completed our "Leadville in Bloom" annual planter box program, with flowers beautifying the storefronts and walkways of Harrison avenue. We've had some fun in the sun to say the least!

On top of it all, Main Street held our Board of Directors Quarter 2 meeting on July 19, 2022, which you can view HERE, and have an open position on our Board that we are actively seeking to fill. If you have ever had an inkling to play a hand in the happenings of Main Street, consider reaching out and potentially become a Board member! For more information or if you have any questions regarding the position, please email us at admin@lakecountyedc.com, or call our office at (719) - 293 - 2316.

We hope everyone is having a great Summer, and we hope to see all of you at our upcoming music event on August 4, 2022! See the below article for details.

Leadville Main Street has partnered with the Tabor Opera House Preservation Foundation during the Summer season to celebrate it opening its doors to the public and promote all of the lively events that the historic theatre has lined up. The heart of Main Street lies in the hands of our Leadville businesses, and any opportunity we have to promote them.

Parklet & Restroom Project - Update!

IMG_5357.jpg

Last year, we announced that in 2022, Harrison Avenue will FINALLY get a new public restroom and parklet at the Visitor's Center (adjacent to the parking lot) thanks to our partners at CDOT via the Main Street Revitalization Grant Opportunity #2. We are excited to announce that plans for the restroom and parklet are solidifying! With the oversight and project management of Hope for Homes, We anticipate the parklet opening late summer/early fall.

Last month, the team was busy with barricade fencing and other pre construction planning. We hope to have banners up next week, and more progress on the parklet in August.

The Leadville Main Street parklet-restroom project will be a great addition to our visitor center in desperate need of better amenities to serve those coming through needing a place to rest, get information, and plan their stay in Leadville. Additionally, this will be another service point for locals and business owners who need reliable bathroom facilities for public use. This project is being implemented in a stakeholder collaboration of the Leadville Main Street Program, Leadville Lake County Economic Development Corporation, Lake County, City of Leadville, Lake County Tourism Panel, Leadville Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Lake County Civic Center Association, Leadville Street Department, Parkville Water, Leadville Sanitation District, and Leadville volunteers.

Leadville Main Street's "Leadville In Bloom"

(formerly Planter Box Program)

LIB logo.JPG

The Leadville Main Street Program is so pleased with the success of last year's annual (online) auction, Leadville In Bloom to support the Planter Box Program! Thank you all who participated and bought a planter box/auction item, we greatly appreciate your support! We have expanded the planter box program this year and are excited to announce some new additions!

Flowers have been placed along Harrison Avenue, and are beautifying our historic downtown area! Thank you all who sponsored a planter box this year! It's so important to us at Main Street to have the help and support of our community members; we truly could not have pursued our planter box program, and all of our other programs, without it.

MINERAL 1886 IS NOW OPEN!

Mineral 1886 opened its doors for breakfast earlier this month. The restaurant, located inside the Historic Delaware hotel, is the first phase to complete of a 2-year, full hotel renovation. The approach to the beautiful design for Mineral is much like the menu, which aims to be simple, classic, and refined. The owners hope their investment in Leadville with provide visitors, hotel guests, and the local community a delicious offering at reasonable prices. The kitchen is being led by a local resident, Chef Diana Gutierrez, who studied culinary arts in Mexico. Gutierrez has worked under notable chefs in Tijuana and San Diego and she now brings her talent to the hotel kitchen. “It’s an honor to serve food in such an incredible atmosphere. I think we’ve done a great job of making the needed updates, while still honoring the past.” Mineral is part of owners Monty Moran and David Chrisman, who are both longtime restauranteurs, vision to be a part of Leadville’s future. Their goal is to protect the history, charm, and grit of Leadville’s extraordinary past, while creating careers and opportunities for many locals. “We didn’t feel it was time to be fully retired, so we looked for the chance to get involved with hospitality once more. We’re not developers looking to make a fortune off our investment, we truly want to be a part of the community and see our team grow and blossom,” says Chrisman. Moran added, “Hospitality is truly one of the most important gifts we can give each other in this life. It gives comfort, makes others feel welcome, and builds the family feeling, the human connection, that is central to any life well-lived.”

The large breakfast menu includes chicken and waffles, avocado toast, biscuits and gravy, the house donut made daily, fresh grated hash browns, and the Leadville 100, a maple-butter hash brown skillet bowl that includes eggs, breakfast meats, and smothered in your choice of duck-fat hollandaise, sausage gravy, or green chile. Mineral is open for breakfast from 7am to 11am daily and plans to open for lunch later this month. Chrisman, Moran, and Gutierrez hope to have dinner available before Boom Days arrival. Chrisman noted, “I think we will be forced to open for lunch and dinner quickly, since we already have many local regulars who are hanging out with their friends sharing coffee and stories long after we close. There have been a few days I must joke with them that the bar is closed while sweeping around their feet.” The restaurant is located at the rear of the Historic Delaware hotel at 700 Harrison Avenue.

GOLDEN BURRO RECIEVES GRANT

We are thrilled to announce that our local historic restaurant, Golden Burro, has been awarded a grant from The National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express, as part of the Backing Historic Small Restaurants initiative, which had been announced earlier this year. The owners of Golden Burro have great plans to use this grant to revive and enhance their store, and we cannot wait to see the fruits of their effort!

Leadville Continues Façade Improvements for Leadville Herald-Democrat

Colorado Main Street: Open for Business Grant provided $5.97M to towns across the state to help local businesses, of which many projects are almost complete!

Leadville, CO – The City of Leadville was awarded $250,000 in grant funding from Colorado Main Street: Open for Business in 2021. These funds are going toward the renovation of the historic Herald Democrat building at 715-717 Harrison Avenue, and will greatly improve the appearance and historic value of Leadville’s downtown.

Colorado Main Street trusts that investing in façade improvements will in turn result in more customer visitations and increase/create jobs for the two retail businesses, Alpine Gift Shop and Fire on the Mountain, that share the building with newspaper. The goal is to create a catalytic ripple effect of investment in our treasured downtowns.

LITTLE LIBURRO REMINDER!

We are so happy to see the active congregations in our beloved Zaitz park, and are especially happy to see that our Little Liburro is being frequented, so much so that we can hardly keep it stocked!

As a reminder, the Liburro is a Little Free Library, and works on the "take a book leave a book" philosophy. If you have some old reads that are collecting dust, please swing by Zaitz if you are thinking of donating them! Free literature is a wonderful thing, and we want everyone to have the opportunity to take a peak and find a good read! The liburro is located in Zaitz park, on 612 Harrison Avenue.

J - CALVIN BAND AT FREIGHT

J-Calvin is a soul-funk-groove band from Durango, Colorado. On New Year’s Eve 2017, the five members of J-Calvin brought their unique and varied musical backgrounds together for the first time. When not performing as J-Calvin, all members dedicate their time as music educators to iAM Music, a 501c3 non-profit music school that helps youth and adults pursue music, cultivates community events, and builds meaningful creative networks. Bar service will be available. Tickets can be bought online or at the door for $20.
