Board Meeting Update
The Board met on Saturday, 2/6/2021. It was a very productive meeting with a lot of great ideas. There will be more information shared at a later time but here are some of the highlights for our members.
Lifetime members have made a commitment to support IBCA and we wanted to recognize them for their dedication to IBCA. Lifetime members will receive a special membership lapel/hat pin. It is slightly larger than the annual membership lapel/hat pin.
Grand Champions who are IBCA members will be awarded an IBCA Challenge Coin. For every 10th GC's earned, the member will receive a larger coin.
- With the postponement of the Showdown in 2020, the board has decided to give back to the Top 10 Cooks of the Year and splitting $10,000 between them. Once the actual payout has been decided, we will share with our members. There are still plenty of events on the calendar to give everyone an opportunity to earn a piece of the prize purse.
- Speaking of the Showdown, Liz & Oscar are still working diligently with the local authorities in Region 4 to keep the Showdown in Region 4; however, things aren't looking too positive at this point. As a contingency plan, we are looking at other venue opportunities outside of Region 4. It's still somewhat too early to know exactly how this will pan out but we are working every avenue possible to keep the Showdown on track for 2021.
- We are working on some changes to our website that will allow "Members Only" access including our board minutes and members only incentives.

Annual Membership Meeting & Awards Banquet
August 12-13, 2021
We are excited to announce that our annual meeting & awards banquet will be at Burnt Bean Co in Seguin, TX. Ernest & Belinda Servantes are working with the banquet committee to put together a special menu for us. Hotel information is in process as well, but there are also a couple nice RV parks if you want to bring your RV instead of staying in a hotel.
This year, the set up will be different. Instead of having everything happening at a hotel, we will have our welcome reception, meetings and awards banquet at Burnt Bean Co. Ernest & Belinda have a wonderful venue. It will be great to support one of our own with his dream.

We have made great progress on the changes to our scoring system and implementing these changes into our current scoring tool. At the October membership meeting, we set the goal to implement the new system on July 1, 2021. We are right on track to make that a reality. The goal to make this happen was to have working prototype by February and that's exactly what has happened.
We have sent out invitations to a Test Run event that will be held at the South Texas BBQ Emporium in Beeville on Saturday, February 20, 2021. This event will allow us to run the scoring tool through a live event to look for weak points in the system before we take to a sanctioned event. We will have several head judges in attendance to start the training. This event will consist of "fast cook" meats to give the cooks the opportunity to also sit at the judging table or observe the judging process between turn ins. For those who didn't receive an invitation, we extend an invitation to you to come by and be a taste judge or just watch to get a better understanding of the process.
We are looking to schedule another test/training event closer to Regions 1 & 5 so our head judges & cooks in those areas don't have to travel as far to see how the system will work. Once we have a location and date, we will let everyone know.

Promoters are still having to make the difficult decisions to postpone events. Please check the Events page on the IBCA Website for the most current information.
