One City Schools Closing Next Week
Important Guidance and Support for One City Families
March 13, 2020

Dear One City Families,

As you have likely seen via local news coverage, Governor Tony Evers has ordered all schools in Wisconsin closed by Wednesday of next week (March 18, 2020). As things have progressed with our nation and state’s response to the COVID-19 Coronavirus, we have been diligently and carefully assessing our actions at One City Schools. We will continue to update you frequently. Below we have listed the most immediate information:

Our Schools Schedule (Both our Preschool and Elementary School)

  • Schools will be open and optional for students on Monday, March 16th; absences will be excused IF you contact our school attendance line (608) 268-8004 by 8:15 am on Monday.

  • Schools will be closed to students beginning Tuesday, March 17th and will not reopen until April 6, at the earliest, by order of Governor Evers.

  • One City staff will report to school on Tuesday, March 17th at 8:30am to create Student Learning and Engagement Packets, which families will use to continue their child’s education until our school can reopen.

  • Schools will be closed to EVERYONE beginning Wednesday, March 18th, with the exception of a few essential staff that will remain to support families.

  • At least two One City Leadership Team members will be in the building between 12:30pm - 5:30pm (for student packet pickup and enrollment form drop-off).

  • No adults over 60 years of age, or persons with compromised immunity should come to One City during the school closure.

We know closing our school will place an incredible burden on many of our families and we are working to provide you with as much support as possible. We ask that you please respond to this COVID-19 Emergency Parent Survey indicating the level of your family’s need at this time. We need ALL families to respond. We are seeking emergency financial support from our donors to fund our emergency services for families, and we will provide support to those in need for as long as we have resources available to do so.

Family Food and Supplies Support

Financial support will be determined by the greatest need.
All questions related to the survey should be directed to Ms. Marilyn Ruffin, One City’s Director of Family and Community Initiatives at mruffin@onecityschools.org .

Wednesday, March 18th through Friday, March 27th

Families will be able to pick up their child(ren)’s Student Learning and Engagement Packet at One City between 12:30pm - 5:30pm. If you cannot get here, we will arrange another way to get it to you. Families will be able to drop off their enrollment applications for the 2020-21 School Year during this time. A reminder, the deadline to submit your enrollment application is Friday, March 20th. Here is the link to where you can download the application: http://www.onecityschools.org/enroll/

At least two members of One City’s Leadership Team will be present at the front desk of our school to facilitate the above each day between 12:30pm - 5:30pm.
Note: One City will recognize its scheduled Spring Break and will not have any staff available at the school between March 30th - April 3rd. We are anticipating that all staff and students will return to school on Monday, April 6th, unless we are informed otherwise by Governor Evers.

Longer-Term Education Plan

Our educational plan is still in development. We know this includes Student Learning and Engagement Packets and related activities in the immediate. However, we will finalize longer-term plans on Tuesday, March 17th and will communicate this plan to you by Wednesday, March 18th of next week.

Health-Related Concerns

Any health-related concerns should be directed to your physician, or to One City’s registered nurse, Ms. Maggie Felker, at mfelker@onecityschools.org ; or via her cell at (608) 422-2270. If you are not able to reach Ms. Felker, please contact Ms. Isabel Perea, One City’s Nursing Assistant, at (786) 610-9626 or iperea@onecityschools.org

We intend to demonstrate our strongest leadership during this developing situation. We will put our children and their families first, and do our very best to support you during this time.

Onward!
