Congresswoman Judy Chu seeks clarity on question of "appropriate level of supervision" in light of recent decision memo from CMS
Hello everyone,

I have some fantastic news to share. Yesterday, CMS announced that it will be covering acupuncture for chronic low back pain. As detailed on their website, Medicare will cover up to 12 visits within 90 days.

It does appear that in order for a licensed acupuncturist to furnish acupuncture for Medicare beneficiaries, they will have to be under “the appropriate level of supervision by a physician, a PA, or a nurse practitioner as is required under current regulations.” I am reaching out to CMS to get clarity on exactly what this means in practice, but I believe it would be similar to how other specialties are treated under Medicare.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. This is a significant and important step- CMS has officially recognized and will cover acupuncture for pain treatment. Our office will continue to work to ensure acupuncturists are appropriately compensated and operate at the full scope of their practice, but this is an important first step in the right direction.

Best,

Ellen Hamilton

This constitutionally-based treatment protocol recognizes the face as the most emotive part of the body. It uses gentle origin/insertion techniques to address muscle imbalances relating to emotional expression, as well as lines, wrinkles and sagging tendencies. Three treatment levels -- Jing, Ying and Wei -- support the facial protocols. Also included are psychospiritual and Shen treatments, as well as a complete topical Chinese herbal protocol with soothing botanicals, jade rollers and gem discs.

Topics to be covered include:

  • How to treat 12 problematic areas of the facial landscape with gentle origin/insertion muscle techniques;

  • 3 levels of constitutional treatment: The Jing: the Eight Extraordinary meridians, and how they affect the endocrine system. The Ying: the 12 Regular meridians are integrated with the Five Phases and their complementary yin and yang pairs The Wei: the Tendinomuscular meridians

  • Practical specifics: benefits and contraindications for facial, constitutional and psychospiritual treatment, plus general rules, treatment timelines, maintenance treatments, short and long-term effects, etc.

  • Herbal treatments: a step-by-step guide, integrating needling protocols with topical Chinese herbs, masks, poultices, natural creams and cleansers, essential oils, jade rollers, gem discs, etc., and much more!!
Whole Heart Acupuncture Complete Series
with Thea Elijah
New York, NY – Beginning March 2020

Treating with Heart
Acupuncture is a treatment modality designed to reach the wholeness of the client with strength, elegance, directness, and simplicity. However, for this approach to be powerful and effective, it must be applied with intimate knowledge of the spirit of the points.

Whole Heart Acupuncture with Thea Elijah will open up new vistas in your knowledge of meridian and point energetics. Perhaps more importantly, it will open and transform your own relationship to energetic diagnosis, point selection, and effective needling.

These classes will have significant intellectual content, but they will also be body-based and heart-centered. Be prepared to engage the material experientially! Be prepared for your own healing journey, which you will then be able to share more fully with your clients.

Treatment Blocks
March 7-8 (9), 2020

One of the richest resources of the Five Element acupuncture tradition is the use of Treatment Block protocols such as Aggressive Energy, Husband/Wife Imbalance, Exit/Entry blocks, Possession, and many more.

A treatment block is, essentially, a system-not-responding-to-stimulus condition causing the client to be either fully or partially unresponsive to ordinary treatment methods.

Learning how to recognize the presence of these treatment blocks in your clients, and knowing how to clear them effectively, can frequently produce dramatic results in otherwise difficult cases.

This seminar offers an overview of Five Element treatment methodology, and an in-depth exploration of the various treatment block protocols. This seminar is a treasure trove of practical insights for TCM practitioners.

For Five Element practitioners, it is an exploration of the energetic significance of the various treatment block protocols. This allows us to support clients in the deeper issues which may be giving rise to these blocks.
