GCOOS is the Gulf of Mexico regional component of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS). Our mission is to provide timely, reliable and accurate information on the open and coastal ocean waters of the Gulf of Mexico to ensure a healthy, clean, productive ocean and resilient coastal zone.

Dear GCOOS Contributors,

We're all still pulling together in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Our thoughts are with those who were directly affected by these storms and we wish everyone a safe recovery.

We've suspended September's newsletter for a few days, but will send our updates soon. In the meantime, please share with us information about the role you and your colleagues have played in the predictions related to these storms and please do let us know if you've suffered damage or loss to any of your observing assets.

Please also let us know if you've extended or changed any deadlines and you'd like us to pass that information along to our readers -- email [email protected].
  • Email information about lost or damaged assets to [email protected].
  • Please send info about how your ocean observing capabilities helped with storm predictions, etc., to [email protected]. We're looking for a brief summary or explanation, along with any images that might be relevant to your efforts.
Best regards,

Barbara Kirkpatrick
GCOOS Executive Director
