ISSUE NO. 311 / July 20, 2022
Sunapee Happenings
On this day, July 20th in 1969, the most remarkable history was made in space.
People across the land were watching the progress on TV. On the shores of the Outer Banks in North Carolina, we went out to the dunes and looked to the sky, in awe and some disbelief, that a man was actually walking on the moon overhead, as it shown down on the gently rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Especially for Kids & Family
July 22: “Neverland” at the Claremont Opera House | Fridays at 10:00 am

North Country Center for the Art’s IMPACT Program, a Touring Children’s Theatre Troupe, performs a different fairytale every week for six weeks, starting after 4th of July weekend. Each production travels to different venues throughout the Granite State and features a cast of 4 to 5 professional actors, plus set pieces, costumes, props, original music, and more! Our 45 – 55 minute adaptations are written to be enjoyed by both children and adults alike.

We all know the story of Wendy, Peter, and John, but what happened in Neverland before they arrived? Join Peter on his early adventures in Neverland, featuring lost boys, mermaids, and Captain Jim, who was merely passing through Neverland until he got “hooked” on the magical land!

Adults: $10 | Ages 5 to 18: $3 | Children under 5: Free. Learn More

Da Vinci exhibit at the Montshire.

Now open!
Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion is a unique interactive experience with full-size machines, constructed after an in-depth study of da Vinci’s designs by a group of scientists and skilled craftsmen. The materials used to create these machine replicas are the same items available during the Renaissance and the ones proposed by da Vinci himself.

Leonardo da Vinci, the celebrated thinker of the Renaissance, is widely considered to be a leading figure of invention and creativity. His ideas have informed and inspired generations of engineers, architects, and artists, and his designs are the precursors of many modern machines and devices, including the glider, parachute, bicycle, and helicopter.

Today, da Vinci’s legacy of innovation is studied in the machines, drawings, and designs he left for us to construct and decode. Now, through Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion, Montshire visitors will have the chance to see the early forms of da Vinci’s machines up close, touch them, and set them in motion during this renowned international exhibition’s first visit to Northern New England.

July 26: A Walk Back in Time: The Secrets of Cellar Holes

Tuesday, July 26, 2022
7:00 PM
at LSPA's Center for Lake Studies

Please join LSPA and Adair Mulligan, Executive Director of the Hanover Conservancy, as she explores the rich story to be discovered in what remains, the reminders of past lives: stone walls, old foundations, century-old lilacs. See how one town has set out to create an inventory of its cellar holes, piecing together the clues in the landscape. Such a project can help landowners know what to do if they have archaeological sites on their land and help stimulate interest in a town's future through its past.
This program is supported by the NH Humanities.

In 2013, he published The Tennis Ball Trees, a whimsical children’s book about his chocolate Labrador Retriever’s love of tennis balls. Upon his retirement in 2015, Lockwood decided to pursue his writing on a part-time basis. His next book, Why the Cane? is scheduled to be released in April 2019. Ice Cream Day
We’re late, so late, we almost missed the date!

Sunday was “ICE CREAM DAY” in the middle of "National Ice Cream Month” so declared by President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

So… we strongly encourage you to do your part in recognition of the month, and visit your favorite Ice Cream spot pronto & often in the next 12 days.

In Sunapee, Sanctuary Dairy Farm on Rt. 103, serves homemade ice cream that is rated “Best in NH”… there’s also a playground and farm animals to amuse. If you’re in the Harbor, try soft-serve ice cream at the Quack Shack on the deck overlooking the Sugar River and then walk off the calories with a stroll over the Covered Bridge and on down the RiverWalk to the new Fit Trail.
