LENT IN PLAIN SIGHT

God is often at work through the ordinary: ordinary people, ordinary objects, ordinary grace. Through the ordinary, God communicates epiphanies, salvation, revelation, and reconciliation. It is through the mundane that we hear God's quiet voice.

In this devotion for the season of Lent, Jill J. Duffield draws readers' attention to ten ordinary objects that Jesus would have encountered on his way to Jerusalem: dust, bread, the cross, coins, shoes, oil, coats, towels, thorns, and stones. In each object, readers will find meaning in the biblical account of Jesus' final days. Each week, readers encounter a new object to consider through Scripture, prayer, and reflection. From Ash Wednesday to Easter, Lent in Plain Sight reminds Christians to open ourselves to the kingdom of God.

You are invited to purchase this book as a devotion for the Lenten season. We will be using these "objects" each week as part of our virtual midweek worship experiences.

Ash Wednesday is February 17 and begins six weeks of Lent. We will offer a virtual Ash Wednesday service at 7:00pm. During the day we will be distributing "Ash Wednesday Take Home Ashes" to be picked up at Bethel for use at home with family that evening during worship.

We will subsequently offer additional virtual midweek worship experiences February 28, March 3,10,17, 24 and 31.

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, March 28.

Maundy Thursday is April 1. Good Friday is April 2. Easter Sunday is April 4.

At this time all services will be virtual. However, as Covid-19 is a fluid situation, things could change, especially as warmer weather arrives. It is possible some of these services will be outside and our hope is to do so as soon as possible.

ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASS

Pastor Dave will be offering an "Adult Confirmation" class called "By Heart".  It will focus on the Small Catechism.  You will need to purchase the book to participate.

You can find out more via the following link: By Heart

The class will begin during Lent, take place via Zoom (at least until we can safely gather together), and will meet at a day/time to be determined by those who choose to participate.  If you have never "taken Confirmation" or if you did it so long ago and you want a "refresher" this class will be for you.  It will focus on our core Lutheran theologies and explore them in a meaningful and conversational way.  Most likely this will be an 8-10 week commitment.

I hope that you will consider it and if you have questions, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Blessings,
Pastor Dave
