Assessor Rebecca M Tonigan, CIAO
Look for your tax bills to arrive by the end of next week, with due dates of June 8th and September 8.

The Lake County Assessor's Senior Assessment Freeze Renewal Notice mailing is postponed until early June.

The County's mailing will not include the 2020 PTAX-340 Assessment Freeze application. The County made a decision to have applicants file the annual renewal application online. The 2020 Senior Freeze Form is available on our website.

Due to the federally-mandated extensions granted to tax filers, I anticipate an extension of the senior freeze deadline beyond July.

Instructions to file online are available here and you may also contact a staff member at 847-381-1120 for assistance.

Given the current health crisis and the challenge for many seniors to file online, my office is accepting completed PTAX-340 forms, for my staff to file online, if you have filed for the freeze in prior years.

Please be sure to include tax schedules that have prior year carryovers.

If this year is the first year you are filing for the Senior Freeze, please be patient and wait until we are able to receive the public in our office, or you can file online.

To qualify for the Senior Freeze, applicants must:

  • Own and occupy the home on January 1, 2019 and January 1, 2020.
  • Be age 65 or older
  • Have a total household income of $65,000 or less. Household income includes the income of all persons using the property as their principal dwelling place on January 1 of the tax year.

Please note this exemption must be renewed annually.

Properties Held in Trust
If your property is held in a trust, we must verify you are a beneficiary of the trust. The exemptions cannot be applied without this verification. Please bring a copy of your trust. If you have questions, call us directly at 847-381-1120.

Check out our Tax Relief link for other available exemptions.

Deputy Assessors are set to review permits and take updated photos of new construction, recent sales and parcels with construction permits, beginning mid-May.

We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
Rebecca M. Tonigan, CIAO
