COVID-19 Volunteers Needed

There is a need for more volunteers to support the County's mass vaccination sites. The County is looking particularly for those who are bilingual and represent our Black and Brown communities. They are looking for individuals with strong customer services skills to fill roles such as greeters, line managers, supply runners, and post-vaccine observation area monitors. No clinical background or experience is required.

Volunteer Eligibility Requirements:
  • Age 18+
  • Willingness to report on-site at a vaccine clinic operated by the County of Santa Clara
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Bilingual not required, but a huge plus! Volunteers who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Cantonese, and Mandarin are very much needed.

In an ongoing effort to offer services in areas hardest hit by the pandemic, the County of Santa Clara began offering drop-in COVID-19 vaccinations this week for eligible residents through a mobile community-based clinic at sites in East San José and Gilroy.

Santa Clara County residents age 65 and up, as well as health care workers who live or work in the county are eligible to receive the vaccinations.

Onsite registration begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesdays. Vaccination reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring proof of age and proof that you live in Santa Clara County or are a health care worker in Santa Clara County.

Yesterday evening, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California temporarily suspended its Monday order that required the County to allow indoor worship services, concluding that the County’s prohibition on all indoor gatherings—including indoor worship services—can remain in place for the time being. The Court will make a final decision on this issue after further briefing and a hearing before the Court.

Health officials urge continued vigilance to slow the spread of COVID-19 in light of confirmed cases of B.1.351 variant.

Public health officials strongly discourage travel and remind residents to reduce their risk of exposure to anyone they don’t live with.
  • Always wear a mask outside the home.
  • Maintain a distance of at least six feet from those outside of the household especially when indoors.
  • Stay home as much as possible except for essential activities.

Residents should also stay current on vaccine eligibility in their area, and when their turn comes, get vaccinated as soon as possible.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday released data showing that double masking, such as wearing a cloth face covering on top of a surgical mask, is more effective at reducing virus transmission. Residents are encouraged to follow these recommendations on double-masking and making sure face coverings are tight-fitting.

Even as vaccinations ramp up across Santa Clara County, public health officials are reminding frontline workers to continue routine COVID-19 testing to protect themselves and others in the community. Current public health guidance recommends testing at least once a month and up to once every two weeks. Visit sccfreetest.org to schedule appointments.
Morgan Hill residents with non-emergency questions or concerns are directed to call or text 408.767.6404. This number is monitored regularly, Monday - Friday, during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Messages will be responded to within 24 hours, during weekdays.
