Virtual Workshop "Urban Dogs"

When: Sunday, August 30th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM CDT
Where: This is an online event. You must register below.
Please join us for "Urban Dogs", a virtual workshop presented by our neighbor, The Anti-Cruelty Society.
The workshop will address problems dogs may face in an urban environment and how to be a good city dog owner.
Registration is required. You may also submit questions at registration, if you register on or before August 26th, 2020.

River North has a large dog community and we are fortunate to have The Anti-Cruelty Society located here in our neighborhood at 510 N. LaSalle Street.
Since 1899, The Anti-Cruelty Society has been committed to serving the needs of companion animals and the humans who care for and about them. The Anti-Cruelty Society is one of the non-profit organizations that RNRA supports each year as part of our philanthropy agenda.

Join RNRA for a Ward Park Clean-up on September 12th
Volunteer to Pitch in for Ward Park!
When: Saturday, September 12th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Where: A. Montgomery Ward Park. You must register below.
This summer, the Chicago Parks Foundation, in partnership with the Chicago Park District and local communities, is leading a citywide volunteer initiative to help keep our parks clean.
Over the past few months, park budgets have been stretched and there are fewer seasonal employees. If we provide the volunteers, the Chicago Parks Foundation will provide clean-up supplies and safety guidelines to help support our park's ongoing maintenance.
Join the RNRA in Ward Park on Saturday, September 12th, from 9:00 am - 11:00 am and help us "Pitch in for the Parks."
Protective gloves, trash bags and tools will be provided. Volunteers will work in groups of ten or less and physical distancing guidelines will be enforced. Face masks/coverings must be worn at all times. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Registration is required.

Where: Merchandise Mart - 222 Merchandise Mart Plaza (Outside in the new deck area on the South side of the building facing the river)
In light of COVID-19, masks are required and physical distancing will be practiced.
This is a casual setting where you have an opportunity to meet your CAPS and Beat Officers and share a cup of coffee.

RNRA encourages all residents to join their CAPS Beat Meetings
CAPS meetings offer city residents an opportunity to address crime and safety issues directly with the beat officers who patrol their neighborhood, as well as to provide ongoing feedback, which help the police to monitor crime issues. The beat meeting is a chance to meet your neighbors and come up with strategies that affect the community.

When: Wednesday, September 16th from 7:00 PM-8:00 PM
Where: 12th District Police Station - 1412 S. Blue Island (Different location from past meetings).
Important Note: This is subject to change. Please follow Twitter feed @chicagoCAPS12. An update will be posted on September 15th if this meeting will be cancelled or held as planned. Maximum capacity limits will be posted. Masks and physical distancing will be practiced.

Make a difference-Become a Court Advocate
18th District Court Advocates needed
Although Courts are closed now, they will reopen in the future and we want to be prepared with a full team of 18th District Court Advocates. Now is the time to sign-up for this program. You can make a difference.
Court advocates appear in court on behalf of the community and victims. The presence of Court Advocacy volunteers sends a strong message to the defendants and the courts that we will not tolerate crime in our community. Meetings are held periodically at the 18th District Police Station. For more information, contact the 18th District at [email protected] or 312-742-5778.

Any Chicago voter may apply now for Vote By Mail applications for the General Election on November 3. No reason or excuse is needed to Vote By Mail and voters can apply online or with a mail-in application.

Enter Kid's Mask Design Contest
PrideMasks.com is working with the City to sponsor a mask design contest to engage youth and promote facial barriers necessary to prevent COVID-19 transmission. Children ages three to 10 are eligible to participate, and one winner will be selected from each age division in each Ward. All winning designs will be produced for the artist and their Alderman!

Community Recycling Event - Ward 42
When: August 29th - 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Where: The event will be held at 360 East North Water Street (North side of North Water Street, between New Street and McClurg Court).
A representative from Alderman Reilly's Office will be present to address concerns or questions regarding city-related matters.
Community Shred Event - Ward 42
When: September 13th - 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Where: Ohio Place Dog Park located at 360 West Ohio Street.
Households are limited to two boxes and shredding materials will be accepted until the shred trucks are full.
A representative from Alderman Reilly's Office will be present to address concerns or questions regarding city-related matters.
