Get to Know Your Birds
with Merlin
The 23-acre Jay Estate is a habitat for some of nature's most beautiful birds from owls , to red-tailed hawks , to wild turkeys . Our new native meadow, in its third summer of installation, is only increasing the diversity of flora and fauna. On your next walk through the park, try using the Merlin app from Cornell Ornithology (recommended by JHC board member Tracy Edwards ) to help identify what you find. Which birds are you likely to see at the Jay Estate? Start with this list from the Great Backyard Bird Count .
Listen to some of the morning birds at the Jay Estate below.
A is for Architecture:
Outdoor Instagram Contest
for all ages
This month JHC launched  I Spy Rye the architecture edition in an effort to expand familiarity with the ABCs of architecture in Rye and beyond. The contest is adapted from our popular summer tours and architecture camp and can be played while out on a fresh-air walk.

Train your eyes and then build your visual vocabulary from  architraves  to  muntins! Label your pics with   #ISpyRye or #jayheritagecenter ,   OR tag the architecture word of the week if you live in another town so we can all share our observations with each other wherever we live. We’ll look through the posts and announce winners and a new architecture word each Friday.
