Greetings Tucson NAWIC #122 and Friends!

Wishing Health & Safety to all our members, families and friends during this Pandemic!
I know that we are all looking forward to a nail appointment, hair cut and most of all seeing our NAWIC
Sisters in person.
At this time, NAWIC is strictly adhering to the CDC Guidelines for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Our board held the March Board meeting by Zoom. We are still taking care of business and planning for
the future.
NAWIC #122 will be back stronger than ever. Nothing is better at toughing us up than adversity. And we are anxiously anticipating that come back.
I want to remind all of you that we have so much to look forward to in the upcoming NAWIC year. We have great speakers for upcoming meetings, once the current restrictions are lifted. We still have the
Shirley Dail Bowling Tournament
scheduled for August 8th . We just confirmed the Gaslight Theater for
December 5th. There will be plenty of other events in between.
One of the most important events for our Chapter is coming up shortly. That is our annual Board elections which we had planned for the May membership meeting. In the event that we are not attending a meeting, I have a sample ballot here for you to view. We would then vote by mail.
Please note, we are still in need of filling the Secretary position. Anyone who has any questions about that position, or any other position, may contact me, our current board members, or the nominating committee –
Christina Cook
,
Colleen Edwards
and
Tammy Minot
.
Ladies, I look forward to seeing each and every one of you soon! Please take care of yourself and your loved ones in the meantime.
Sandy Lipe

A Special Note from NAWIC Sister, Ann Vargas, Habitat for Humanity
Dear Community Leaders and NAWIC Sisters,
Watching the pandemic unfold across the globe, and thinking about what it is that sustains us every day, I am very grateful for the 20 Women Leaders who convened at Pima College on March 3, 2020. The leadership that was exemplified at this Tucson NAWIC Chapter #122 Women in Construction Week is what will get us through the crisis. Your words of wisdom, your can-do attitude, your professional standards and your kindness make a strong community even stronger. Thank you again for your leadership.
Joanna Buglewicz
made a special effort to get each of the Women Leaders a small gift to show our appreciation. I was going to deliver some, and mail the rest. I am sorry I did not get around to giving you these gifts before COVID 19 protocols were put in place. I think you will agree with me, that the message on the very colorful plaques that Joanna picked out, is spot on. All of the “good” news during this coronavirus outbreak is about good people who are working hard every day to make a difference; and that is exactly what the 2020 Women Leaders showed us during WIC Week.
I hope everyone is staying healthy and has lots of support to get through the day.

Design Drafting Competition
Our chapter is proud to announce the upcoming
NAWIC Education Foundation’s Design Drafting Competition
. The competition is designed to introduce students to the construction industry in a positive and challenging manner, to foster a self-worth, to build confidence in the participants, and to encourage mentoring programs between students, educators and the industry.
Their design problem this year is to create a Visitor Center for the USS Cod Submarine Memorial in Cleveland, Ohio along the North Coast Harbor. The design should consider use by large groups of school children (K-12) or clusters of adults from bus tours, singles and local families, visitors from abroad, current and former military members. The submarine itself houses most of the exhibits; however, the Visitors Center and the submarine should be extensions of one another to tell the story and honor its engineering marvel and the people that were a part of submarine history. Aesthetics and the treatment of materials should acknowledge the other recent buildings around the site. When designing, they are to think about the site, views of the harbor, placement with regards to entering and viewing the submarine and honoring this engineering marvel and the United States submariners. The national winner of the competition may be the conceptual designer for the actual build. How amazing that would be for the student? All parts of the space must comply with ADA accessibility requirements. This project is near and dear to our CADD chairwoman,
Jan Marshall's
, heart as her Dad served in the Navy as a submariner for 20 years.
This year NAWIC Tucson Chapter #122 is proud to sponsor the Design Drafting Competition. We have six students from Canyon Del Oro High School participating under their instructor, Josh Ronstadt. We are seeking financial sponsors for the cash awards and other expenses of the competition such as the awards dinner. We hope to raise $1500 which includes $600 in prize money and would like each participant to leave the contest with gift certificates and merchandise. We would like to invite the participants and their parents as well as their instructor to the awards ceremony at our April dinner meeting. In addition, we would like to give our judges gifts for offering their time and expertise to the competition. The judging for the competition is being held this month and the prizes will be awarded at our April membership/dinner meeting. NAWIC Tucson Chapter #122 truly appreciates our supporters who help to foster education in our community and support the construction industry and NAWIC. Please contact me if you have any questions at all. We hope you will be able to help us this year financially with our project. Pleas click the links below for sponsorship information.
Please address any questions to our NEF Draft & Design committee:

A Note from Myrna Smith, NAWIC Pacific Southwest Region Director
Greetings Pacific Southwest Region,
I do hope this email finds you safe and healthy. We are in some challenging times right now. We will get through them, but I’m sure the world and our everyday life will be changed in some way.
Please remember we are all in this together. I have been hearing many different stories, from job losses, to ill family members, to our own members in hospital.
I wanted to share some great positive news about one of our members of the San Diego Chapter. Shannon Carner gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on March 25th. McKenna Carner was 7.7 lbs & 19.5 in. She is a lovely addition to their family. Her big brother and daddy are all smiles.
Congratulations to Shannon and her husband. It’s great to see positive things during uncertain times.
If you would like to send a note to the family, you do so at:

On a side note, our Newsletter Editor, Vanessa, is putting together a WIC Week Recap of all the chapters. This will go out this week.
Unfortunately, since our Forum was cancelled, we decided to bring the Forum to you. We are working on putting most of the items that would have been presented at Forum. This includes all the awards for each of the committees, reports and more. Look for this to go out this week also.
Please stay safe and healthy!
