Hello GRES Families!
Next week officially kicks off our IAR testing. In preparation for testing days, it is a great idea for student's to get a good night's sleep and have a healthy breakfast. We also have Spring Picture Day on Thursday next week. It is carnival themed, so dress up in something fun! :) Also, don't wear green because any green on clothing will show the bakcground.
Please remind your child(ren) to return all library books by May 11th!!
If you haven't paid your school fees, you may do that in the HAC. Emails were sent to families that have an outstanding balance in the last couple weeks.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to continually enhance the services we provide to our families.
Sincerely,
Michele Breyne
GRES Principal

Staff Shout Out
“My son was essentially been home the entire month of February due to exposures of Covid. Mrs. Hosey has gone above and beyond in her communication with my son and myself. Particularly for this math class I feel as if his learning has not skipped a beat by being home. Her personalized approach to teaching throughout the entire year has my son so engaged and excited about learning. It is clearly evident how much she loves her job and cares for each student as an individual! Thank you Mrs. Hosey!!”

Taste of Yorkville "Culture Matters" event goes virtual on April 24
The Yorkville School District 115’s Bilingual Parent Advisory Council (BPAC), in collaboration with the United City of Yorkville Parks and Recreation, will host the second annual Taste of Yorkville “Culture Matters” event this Saturday, April 24. This year's event is being held virtually in recognition of “Celebrate Diversity Month.” The event aims to help the community recognize and celebrate the diverse cultural differences and similarities between Yorkville CUSD 115 families.
This year’s committee was determined to bring the cultural experience back to the community in some form or fashion. Although there will not be a physical distribution of “passports” for this year’s travel excursion, participants can still travel to different parts of the world without leaving Yorkville. This year’s virtual experience will highlight videos of various countries and cultures along with a keynote speaker. There will also be an opportunity to be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate from one of the event partners.

GRES Spring Picture Day
On Thursday, April 29th we will be having our Spring Picture Day. There is no payment required ahead of time for these photos. Students will receive a photo proof in an envelope a few weeks after picture day. At that time, you may either decide to purchase photos and send in the order form or pay online, or return the proof.
Students that are in person:
- will get their photos taken during the school day.
- When proofs arrive, these will be sent home with your student.
- Please return orders by the return date listed on the proof.
- All students will be photographed regardless of a potential order.
Remote Students:
- are invited to come for pictures between 1:00-5:00pm to minimize exposure to other students.
- Please park in the main lot and come to door 1.
- Please complete the visitor health screener link confirming your child nor anyone in the home has symptoms. We will walk your child to get their photo and he or she will be walked back quickly.
- Once the proofs come in, we will contact you through email or phone to let you know the proofs are here and ready for pick up.

Best Community for Music Education
Congratulations to all! For the fourth consecutive year, Yorkville has been named as a Best Community for Music Education by NAMM. Yorkville is one of 14 school districts in Illinois to receive the designation this year. This year's application process focused on innovation and instruction during the pandemic. We are proud of our students, educators, administration, Board of Education, and community for this outstanding recognition!

Input needed to help set foundation's funding priorities
Yorkville Educational Foundation (YEF), the nonprofit partner of Yorkville CUSD 115, has raised more than $125,000 since its inception. YEF is seeking the community's input through a short 10-question survey regarding which programs to invest in district-wide. All participants will be entered into a drawing for a $250 grant to go towards the Y115 school of his/her choice.
Even if you're not familiar with the foundation, your input is valuable for future planning.

SEAKers
Grande Reserve has joined the SEAKers in completing weekly kindness challenges! SEAKers, which stands for Students Engaging in Acts of Kindness, was created by Mandy Kelly, a 6th grade teacher in California. The goal of the SEAKers is to “make the world a better place through small acts of kindness”. Each week students will be challenged with small acts such as holding the door open, doing an extra chore at home, or giving someone a genuine compliment. Each week we will shoutout the class with the most SEAKers!
Families are welcome to join in at home too! Check out the SEAKers website and facebook page below!

Please send us any photos of your child(ren) doing Acts of Kindness; we'd love to feature them! :)

We would like to add a special section to our weekly newsletters but we need your help! Each week we would like to give a special "shoutout" to a GRES teacher. Students or parents can nominate a teacher to be included in our "Teacher Feature" section of the weekly newsletter by sharing a reason(s) why they make school a wonderful place to be! Your input can be shared by completing the digital submission form or you can print our paper copy and have your child turn it into the office at school. Thank you for your support, we are looking forward to sharing your responses!

There will be an opportunity for hybrid students to get their Spring Pictures taken on 4/29/21 here at school from 1:00-5:00pm. Please enter through the front door.
As we continue to look to the next school year, it is a good idea to have your student work on independent skills either during the live instruction or the asynchronous activities (or both). We have noticed that some of the students returning from remote instruction are struggling to work without someone by their side. If you need to, get them started on an activity, walk away and start some laundry, do some dishes, or catch up on a good book! :) Start small: set a timer and check back in on them, but give them the independence they need to feel successful.

Families of 3rd through 6th grade e-learning students are being asked to bring their child to the building to complete the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. I want to stress the importance of student participation as a lack of participation could have a negative impact on our overall community. Non-participation counts as a student not meeting, which will impact our growth and proficiency scores negatively. In addition, it could affect our overall success rating and at times, property values are attached to school/district ratings. If there is an environment that we could accommodate so that we could test your child, please share that with us.
There will be an opportunity for e-learning students to get their Spring Pictures taken on 4/29/21 here at school from 1:00-5:00pm. Please enter through the front door and complete the visitor health screening posted outside the building.
Please remind your child(ren) to return all library books by May 11th!!
