Dear Mia,

WE. DID. IT.

Unlike the city-wide races, ours is a "Top 2" race, which means that the top 2 candidates (regardless of party) move on to the General Election in November. While only 30% of ballots have been counted so far (over 400K still need to be counted city-wide), we feel safe to share that we are moving on to the General Election.

Do you realize what we have accomplished? As a first time candidate with only a fifth of the budget of the incumbent, we ran a fierce primary campaign. With just a small core team of dedicated staff and volunteers, we organized with a sense of integrity, heart, and drive that could be expected of a campaign twice the size with $500K in the bank. Without taking a dime from corporations, police unions, developers, or the fossil fuel, healthcare, or charter industry, we ran digital ads, texted and talked to folks on the phone (in English and Spanish), walked in neighborhoods throughout the district, and sent out a strategic printed mailer. And now only 7000 votes separate us from the corporate incumbent. We have given the people of AD52 a choice to elect a real progressive who wants to work with them to create a California that will work for all of us. I could not be more proud of what our team was able to accomplish over the past 16 months.

Ballots are still being tabulated and final results may take a week longer. The next update from the Registrar's office will be released on Friday. If you want to follow the returns, here are a few sites you can check:

It is such a relief to be on this side of the primary after a 16 month journey. Finally. As proud as we are, this race shows us that when it comes to democracy, none of us can afford to be complacent. We can't be asleep at the wheel - we must be active voices in our government to ensure our electeds hold up their end of the bargain and do the hard work of advocating for us. So while we take a few weeks to rest and replenish our spirits, we hope you will join us in the fight when we gear up for the general election in November.

With immense gratitude to all who voted for us, invested time volunteering for our campaign or donating, and have been cheerleaders from the start, we know that we wouldn't have gotten this far without you.

With love,

Mia
