Proposition S includes performing arts center

If approved by voters in April, Proposition S includes a new, larger performing arts center. The PAC would likely be constructed as an addition to the current Ray-Pec High School.

Proposition S is the $72 million no-tax-rate-increase bond issue that Ray-Pec voters will consider on the April 6 ballot.

The current Ray-Pec High School theatre was constructed in 1992 with a seating capacity of 422. As the district has grown, the seating is sometimes inadequate for performances by choir, band, orchestra, and theatre. Over the past few years, during development of the long-range facility plan, patrons, staff, and students have expressed support for a new PAC.

A modern performing arts center with a seating capacity over 750 will allow for more seating during performances, as well as potential community use. The new performing arts center would include updated technology, wing space, and a fly system for theatre sets.

The School Board approved placing the bond issue on the ballot to support priorities identified in the long-range facility plan.

Ray-Pec raises more than $8,000 during Polar Plunge

About 40 Ray-Pec students and staff participated in the Polar Plunge on Jan. 30 to raise money for Special Olympics.

Ray-Pec's team, The Prehistoric Panthers, had the most members, and traveled the furthest, to participate in the event at Smithville Lake. In the past, the event took place at Longview Lake.

While the final update on fundraising is still pending, the Panthers raised more than $8,000 in contributions for Missouri Special Olympics. Ray-Pec has traditionally been one of the top fundraising teams.

This year's event included two Super Plungers, and one was from Ray-Pec! RPHS Senior Lucian Howlett raised about $2,500. The Super Plungers complete 24 plunges in 24 hours - once per hour. See video of one of his plunges here.
Sign up for Pulse to share your feedback
In an ongoing improvement effort, the Ray-Pec School District is using a new tool.

Pulse is the new tool that sends regular, short, anonymous surveys. The quick and frequent feedback allows the District to gather information about topics such as communication, your child's safety, your child's learning, and school leadership.

School principals recently sent out directions to set up a Pulse account. If you have children in multiple schools, you can provide feedback specific to each school. In addition, you can choose to provide your feedback through SMS text or email.

If you have not yet signed up for an account with Pulse, you can do so here. Follow the directions as prompted. (If you are joining by mobile phone, you will be sent an authentication code to your phone that must be entered.) Next, you will be prompted to join the school. Use the ID for your school as indicated here.
