Dear Alumni, RAMP members and friends of the DAAD,

After the long summer break, the first semester at Australian universities has just began. Nevertheless, students already start to look into exchange opportunities in Germany, as well as planning their future studies and research abroad.

Therefore, the DAAD Information Centre, Sydney, is pleased to invite everyone to the upcoming Study in Germany Information Event at University of Sydney, March 23, 10am-2 pm. The information event is organized by the German Consulate General, the Goethe Insitut, and the DAAD Information Centre, Sydney. 

If you, or your students are interested in short term programs in German language and culture, you might want to know about the University Winter Courses in Germany for Foreign Students and Graduates ("Hochschulwinterkurs")While the deadline is still quite a bit away (August 15), please pay attention to having a language certificate for at least B1 level at hand, which was given by one of these institutions: onDaFTestDaFGoethe Institut (Melbourne, Sydney), DSD, DSH, telc Deutsch. Falling Walls - The International Conference on Future – Breakthrough in Science and Society http://www.falling-walls.com/lab
The conference, which was a worldwide success in 2016 will be again held in 2017 on 8/9 November in Berlin.  Would you like to attend the conference Berlin? Each participating country sends one candidate to Berlin. Find out more about how you can join the pre- selection at the Australian Falling Walls Lab. European Studies in Australia
Workshop-Conference held jointly by the European Studies Program, University of Sydney and CESAA

A workshop-conference on aspects of Europe and European Studies in Australia, hosted at University of Sydney by the European Studies Program of the School of Languages and Cultures and the Contemporary European Studies Association of Australia (CESAA). Publication of selected papers is envisaged in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of European Studies (ANZJES).

Sessions and/or Individual Papers are invited across all relevant disciplines. Please send Working Titles by February 28, 2017.

Possible Workshop themes:
  • 1.Teaching European Studies in Australia
  • 2.Europe and the EU: What are the main current issues?
  • 3.The Broader Europe: How can we accommodate it in Australian European Studies?
  • 4.Aspects of contemporary Europe such as:
  • Europe & Brexit
  • The refugee crisis
  • Russia and Europe
  • 5.Social Theory in the wake of the Crisis - How have leading social theorists dealt with the crisis and its consequences. How has thinking about Europe changed in light of the crisis.

DAAD Program for Undergraduates in Australia:


University Winter Courses in Germany for Foreign Students and Graduates

The 'University Winter Courses in Germany' has been a successful program for many students from Australia. This program is for students who are over 18 years old, who  have completed at least two years of study at the time of starting their funded stay, and are able to follow lectures and collaborate in teams. Therefore, they must have had at least two years of German lessons by the time they start their grant-supported studies according to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. 

Please note that the language prerequisites have changed during the last year. All applicants have to proof their language level through a certificate from onDaF, TestDaF, Goethe Institut (Melbourne, Sydney), DSD, DSH, telc Deutsch. The certificate should be no more than one year old.

The deadline for the application is this year August 15

FUBiS  is an intensive academic program through which students can earn credits that may be counted toward their degrees at their home institutions.
