January 29, 2021

Dear Families,

At this week's Board Meeting, the District presented a Spring, Summer, Fall 2021 Roadmap, detailing plans to further maximize safe, in-person, quality learning. Below is a recap of what was discussed at the meeting. More detailed information on the plan and rationale is available here.

  • Carleton Washburne School (grades 7 & 8)
    • Within the window of March 8 - April 5, AM/PM pods will merge and students will be on campus for at least a 4-hour day utilizing larger spaces (such as gyms, cafeteria, etc.) to achieve 6 feet of social distancing.
    • Implementation date will be confirmed by mid-February.
    • Families will have another opportunity to choose on-site or remote learning once schedules are available the week of February 15.
  • Crow Island, Greeley, Hubbard Woods, & Skokie Schools (grades K-6)
    • Once staff have access to the Covid-19 vaccine AND health guidance supports social distancing less than 6 feet, AM/PM pods will merge and students will be on campus for at least a 4-hour day with at least 4 1/2 feet of social distancing.
    • Implementation criteria and date will be discussed by mid-February; if criteria are met, implementation will occur in April.
    • Families will have another opportunity to choose on-site or remote learning once schedules are available in early March.

The School Board will hold a special board meeting on Monday, February 15 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss:
  • Status of vaccine rollout - is availability and timing on track?
  • Implementation date and details for Carleton Washburne's new schedule
  • Timeline for extending day for Kindergarten-Grade 6 following Spring Break, which will likely involve merging the am/pm pods with a new schedule
Moving forward, the Spring, Summer, Fall 2021 Roadmap and accompanying documents will be updated monthly and shared with the Board and school community. Thank you for taking time to review this information. The District is committed to creatively planning in the midst of an evolving landscape, while continuing to improve and enhance our current programs. It goes without saying that we all look forward to returning to a more typical experience for our students when a vaccine is rolled out and logistics, health metrics, and guidelines allow.

Sincerely,

Dr. Trisha Kocanda
Superintendent
