May 2022 Heart Connections
May proved to be a wonderful month for the homeless pets of GMHS! A total of 36 pets were adopted into their forever homes and 52 pets were transferred to adoption-guaranteed partners through our Highway to Home program! Heartfelt thanks are in order for all of those who chose to adopt and friends of the shelter who ensure GMHS has the resources necessary to provide shelter and compassionate care to deserving pets.

May 2022 Shelter Snapshot

May was another great month for adoptions and transfers through our Highway to Home program. We are grateful to all who made it so! The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners. We are also committed to education, outreach, and transparency. Our annual statistics are available on our website, and we also offer you a monthly snapshot.

As sometimes happens, joy is accompanied by sorrow. In May, we had the heartbreaking task of euthanizing thirteen cats after consulting with our veterinary team and exhausting all treatment options.

2022 year-to-date, the live-release rate of GMHS is 96%. Every pet's life is valuable, and GMHS is fortunate to have access to the resources necessary to ensure pets are neither euthanized for length of stay nor space. It is precisely your support that makes ours a life-saving shelter.

Huge and heartfelt thanks to our friend Abbygail Polk from Achilles Elementary. She collected a cart full of pet supplies for the Anchor for Life Service Project. Thank you, Abbygail, for supporting the pets of GMHS!
