Each year, the event has been a fixture and serves to educate and inform residents of the importance of taking proactive fire prevention measures. Vice President Barry Goode presented a proclamation to Plainfield's Fire Division on behalf of Mayor Adrian O. Mapp. Proclamations from Assemblywoman Linda Carter, on behalf of New Jersey's Senate and General Assembly, and County Commissioner Rebecca Williams, on behalf of Union County, were presented to Plainfield's Fire Division. In addition, Councilman Charles McRae and Councilwoman Ashley Davis were also in attendance.

Preceding the presentation of proclamations, Deputy Chief Franklin held an informational segment in which he demonstrated the various sounds of a fire alarm and their meaning, quizzing attendees to test their knowledge and retention. OCTOBE IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of breast cancer. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Although breast cancer is not an illness that can be prevented, one can still be proactive about our health. Early detection is key to a successful outcome. The statistic shows that when breast cancer is detected early and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%.

Take control of your life and do monthly breast self-exams and schedule regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.
