July Monthly Observances

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. Inspired by Bebe Moore Campbell, an American author, journalist, teacher, mental health advocate, and co-founder of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Urban Los Angeles, this month brings awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental health. For more information and resources, check out this UNLV Today article.

This month recognizes the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) being signed into law on July 26, 1990 and celebrates the diversity and uniqueness of each person in the disability community and people who have disabilities. For more information and resources, check out this UNLV Today article.

April Employee Appreciation Recipient

Jarred Achong

Facilities Management

Jarred was nominated for assisting his department by taking on tasks outside his regular scope of work. In the absence of two supply technicians, he took over the Cintas uniform rental program, submitted orders for COVID-19 supplies, and tracked supply data in the TMA system. He also evaluated broken equipment and took the necessary steps to make sure those items were fixed or replaced. With a myriad of additional assignments on his plate, he still completed his regular work duties and handled emergency calls for the Maryland campus and satellite buildings.

The Hazards of Research: How Risk Management Partners to Keep the Community Safe

Risk Management & Safety’s radiological safety and chemical inventory & software management teams are constantly working behind the scenes to keep the UNLV community safe. Recently, they expanded their reach to emergency responders in our community to share their expertise and enhance campus safety.

Spotlight on Service

“I would like to thank Kinesha and Ken from the Facilities Management team for their hard work in CHE 116/116A. Last semester, a fire occurred in the lab and ruined the space, making it unusable for the professor. The project has been completed and the professor is so grateful for their dedication to this project.”
