As long time Point Loma residents, we have always regarded Cabrillo National Monument as a top destination for our visitors, family, and friends. In the past, we came often to the Park for the extraordinary views, the tidepools, and the prospect of restoring ourselves in a magnificent natural setting, so close to the bustling city.

After retirement, with more free time available, we each became much more involved with the Park. We both completed the Tidepool Protection Education and Restoration Program (TPERP) to qualify as Park volunteers. Cecilia became a dedicated Volunteer-In-Parks (VIP), spending countless hours at the Park, focusing on science education. Stan welcomed the opportunity to become a Trustee on the Board of the Cabrillo National Monument Foundation.

We currently visit the Park several times each week, hiking the Bayside and Coastal Trails and exploring the tidepools. Each visit makes us more aware of the wonders of this gem, one of the most biodiverse places in the world.

Through the Foundation, we are able to support programs in the Park that are beyond the scope of Federal funding. We enable the education and training of young future scientists and protectors of the environment through EcoLogik and the Science Explorers. We assist disadvantaged youngsters to experience the wonders of the Park through transportation funding, admission privileges, and collaboration with school programs throughout the San Diego region. We make it possible to bring the people to the Park and the Park to the people.

How fortunate we are to have the only National Park in San Diego County at our very doorstep. By supporting the Foundation, we help to assure that this wondrous place will be protected and preserved for countless generations. In these challenging times, the value of connecting with nature in an unspoiled setting cannot be over estimated.
