I'm going to cover several business related topics in this week's newsletter so, please follow along.
First, a large "Chamber congratulations" goes out to Escondido's own Jack Raymond for his latest recognition as Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The Chamber will be there as Jack will be presented his award Monday, November 4th at their annual luncheon.
And, the Chamber's role is to foster a healthy and growing business community here in Escondido. One of the ways we deliver on that is by keeping our community informed on laws that affect our community. Here is a link to the latest changes passed through Sacramento, signed by our Governor and taking effect January, 1st 2020 here in California. Visit
2020Sacramento.
Now for a short update. The Chamber's Rising Stars program is in full motion this school year and our first awards breakfast was held Wednesday, October 9th at the Center for the Arts. It was an emotionally uplifting opportunity to witness the outstanding work our schools are doing here in Escondido. The time, dedication and love shown by these educators, counselors and staff towards helping our students who are facing challenges beyond our understanding makes you proud of them and hopeful for our future. These are student success stories you won't find in the news or celebrated with a parade. You could feel the emotion and witness the impact this program is having in helping these deserving students as they move onto their next challenge of earning a college degree. Thank you to our sponsors, educators and
students who are making a difference here in Escondido.
If we are going to change the narrative of Escondido beyond our city's limits, this is a great place to start. Our future lies in the hands of students like these.
Grand Avenue Festival Fall 2019 is done and we thank the City of Escondido, our underwriters, Chamber staff, Board members, Chamber volunteers (Ambassadors) and most importantly all of you that attended. It was a beautiful Escondido Sunday full of fun, music, food, art, dance troups, dog contests, and children's amusement's all set in the beautiful Grand Avenue shopping district of downtown Escondido. Well done Escondido!
The Chamber now sets its focus on the upcoming Holiday Season. Be sure to check out our events calendar online for listings of all the upcoming Chamber activities and do plan on attending any and all of our events. Oh, and do take a moment to engage any Chamber representative for information on how you can become a member or support your Escondido Chamber of Commerce.

ESCONDIDO LOCAL NEWS & HAPPENINGS
|
In 2004, 67% of San Diego County voters approved a 40-year extension of TransNet, a half-cent sales tax for highway, road, and transit projects. Recently, SANDAG proposed making changes to the 2004
ordinance by re-directing funds from several highway projects into mass transit.
Since 2004, only 6% of the funds generated by TransNet have been used to build highways, which are
used by over 95% of the people, while 66% has been used to construct public transit projects, used by less than 5% of the people. The public transit projects identified for the voters in the 2004 ordinance were front-loaded, while 14 promised highway projects were never started. North County's economy and way of life depend on those congested, outdated highways!
That's why I introduced AB 1398, which would require SANDAG to hold public meetings and gain approval
from two-thirds of voters before making substantial changes to its spending plans. Fortunately, in a move
spearheaded by North County mayors and Supervisors Desmond and Gaspar, SANDAG's board has approved a compromise aimed at adding lanes to State Routes 67 and 78, along with improvements for SR 52...
