Campaign Update | August 2020
Campaign Spotlight: Fran Craig
As an enthusiastic advocate and staunch supporter of the Children’s Science Center for the past 5 years, it was no surprise that Fran Craig was the first to announce her commitment as an Elements Partner for Launch the Future, the campaign to build Northern Virginia’s science center.

The founder of Unanet, a Loudoun-headquartered leading vendor of web-based professional services automation software, Fran loves the symbolism of Uranium (U) as her sponsored element. Her element, within the complete periodic table, will be incorporated as an interactive experience greeting visitors to the science center that will be enjoyed for generations.

Thank you, Fran, for being a champion for STEM learning and our mission and vision by lending your expertise and leadership as a member of the Board, Advisory Board, and now as an Elements Partner. We are extremely grateful to Fran for leading the Elements Partner effort and look forward to recognizing many more Element Partners' legacy to the children and families of our region.

Community Conversation with Laura Lott
On July 22, Children's Science Center hosted a virtual Community Conversation with Laura Lott, President and CEO of the American Alliance of Museums.

Over 50 community members joined Lott and the Center's Executive Director, Nene Spivy, in a conversation about the state of museums during the coronavirus pandemic, the role museums play in fighting racial injustice, and how museums and their respective communities can support each other during uncertain times.

Lott advocated for the need to support museums during the COVID-19 crisis, highlighting the total economic contributions of museums, which in 2016 amounted to more than $50 billion in GDP, 726,200 jobs, and $12 billion in taxes to local, state, and federal governments. Lott also shared information on a national public opinion poll which shows that Americans overwhelmingly appreciate and recognize the work of museums as educational and economic assets to their communities.
