Cameron Hospital Foundation
Cameron Memorial Community Hospital has been a staple nonprofit organization in Steuben County for almost 100 years. The
Cameron Foundation was established to support the mission of the hospital and to provide resources that improve the community overall. The foundation’s mission is to, “Improve the quality of life for those we serve through relationships focused on health and wellness.” The Cameron Foundation makes an impact by focusing on areas that directly affect health and wellness needs in Steuben County. Some of these needs include state-of-the-art training and resources, expansion of hospital programs, services and community education, and continued advances in meeting the medical needs of the community. Krista Miller, Executive Director at the Cameron Foundation, attributes the ability to provide resources to the community to their excellent leadership and staff.

Thanks to the generosity of women like Wava Aughenbaugh and Lucille Whitman, SCCF awards more than $20,000 in grants each year to projects that serve women and girls in Steuben County. The Women's Fund was established in 1991, and the grant dollars generated by this permanent fund are guided by a volunteer committee of local women. In 2019, the Women's Fund committee reviewed requests and awarded ten grants. The funds were used for a variety of causes, from the City of Angola's women's entrepreneurship classes to McMillen Health's preventative child sexual abuse education programs. They supported the growth of young girls as leaders through Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana, and helped women learn to defend themselves by supporting Angola City Police's R.A.D. Self Defense Class.
If your nonprofit has a program that is addressing issues that affect women and girls, you can apply in the SCCF grants portal. Applications are due February 28 and May 1.

On February 12, SCCF gathered 70 nonprofit representatives at our new grant guidelines workshop. Panelists Gretchen Miller, Connie McCahill, and Jennifer Danic, from Trine University, Cameron Hospital, and SCCF respectively, shared their thoughts on incorporating innovation, collaboration, and sustainability into grant projects.
SCCF would like to thank the panelists for sharing their insights and the attendees who took the time to learn more about our grant guidelines. There will be four more workshops in this spring series. Nonprofits can register on our website at
