March Madness? No, it’s time for Lent Madness!
Pick your saint and play Lent Madness. Throughout Lent, 32 saints will battle to win the coveted Golden Halo. Loosely based on the NCAA basketball tournament of a similar name, this online devotion pits saints against one another in a bracket as voters choose their favorites throughout this penitential season. Check every weekday of Lent online and vote for your favorite during the 24 hours the pair remains open. Who will be the Saintly Sixteen or the Faithful Four? The competition kicks off on Ash Thursday, February 27, with an epic battle between Thomas More and St. James the Less.
Survey Says: Results are In!
The Discernment Committee was thrilled with 242 responses from 460 surveys. The group recently gave a presentation highlighting the results of the congregational survey for a new rector. If you are interested in reading the entire results, you can review them in the Parish Hall (please leave the binder and results in the church rather than taking them home). To read a brief explanation of how word clouds are created, click here and look for questions and answers to be recapped soon. Questions? Contact the committee (confidentially) at discernment@ghtc.org

SeRVAnt Lunches continue on Wed; Red Door every Fri.
Although this week is Ash Wednesday and the student lunches will pause this week, at noon on Wednesday in Room 9 there is a gathering of VCU students. Many of those students return on Fridays to work at the Red Door Ministry. Often, these activities lead to students attending our Sunday services. If you are volunteering to help, be sure to welcome students–and ask them for their email address so we can add them to the weekly eNews list.

Shrine Mont and Episcopal Youth Event Opportunities
Every year there are a number of opportunities for kids and youth in the Diocese of Virginia to spend time having fun and learning with peers. Parish Youth Ministries (PYM), a committee of the diocese exclusively made up of diocesan high schoolers, is hosting three weekend retreats at Shrine Mont this year. The PYM weekend for Grades 4-5 is April 17-19, for Grades 6-8 is May 8-10, and for Grades 9-12 is Nov. 1-3. More information and registration is  available here . Also coming up is the national church’s Episcopal Youth Event (EYE). Our General Convention has mandated a tri-annual gathering of youth in Grades 9-12 (or between 15 and 19 years old) so “that the energy of the youth of the Episcopal Church can continue to be utilized in active ministry as members of the Body of Christ.” The next EYE will be from July 7-11 at the University of Maryland in College Park. There is no limit on how many delegates our diocese can bring. However, once the total delegate cap is reached, registration will close so be sure to  check out this opportunity soon . Scholarship funding for PYM and EYE is available from GHTC and the diocese, just ask  Aaron Davis   for details.

Pastoral Care Teams for the Congregation
Do you call your pew-mate when they don’t show up for worship? Do you send your church siblings birthday cards? Did you know that just by being kind to one another you are participating in pastoral care? Mother Kim is working on reorganizing our pastoral care teams so that we can respond to our community needs quickly and appropriately. She knows there are many of you who are doing these kinds of things and helping one another in joy and sorrow. If you are part of a caring ministry and didn’t get an email from Mother Kim recently, reach out to be added to that list. Keep your eyes and heart open for opportunities to be the caring compassionate congregation we are called to be in 2020 and beyond.
