Welcome to The Mt. Lion Roar where you can read about some of the things happening in the Altoona Area School District. With nearly 8,000 students, AASD is the area's top choice for Academics, Arts and Athletics.
AAJHS Winter Concert December 6 @ 7 pm
AAJHS ROAR CAFE MUGS
Mr. King’s pottery students are collaborating with Mrs. Authur's Life Skills classes to create hand-built ceramic mugs through an AASD Foundation Grant. The AAJHS Roar Cafe Mugs will be available for faculty and staff to purchase in December, and the Roar Cafe will offer a discount on coffee for those who purchase a mug.  
35th ANNUAL RETIREE DINNER
More than 140 AASD retirees attended the 35th Annual Retiree dinner on Thursday, November 14. Sponsored by the AASD Foundation, the dinner celebrates former AASD and GACTC instructional and non-instructional employees. An award is given to recognize an instructinal and a noninstructional employee for their dedication and commitment to the Altoona Area School District. This year's award winners included AAHS instructor Mr. David Aboud and Maintenance Supervisor Mr. Gregg Coldwell.

National Educational Support Professionals Day is an important part of the National Education Association’s American Education Week. These individuals are recognized on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. ESPs are educated, well-trained, experienced and committed to students and their success. Education Support Professionals Day is a celebration in honor of support staff that work within schools across the country. The Altoona Area School District currently employs 33 ESP’s that work in many buildings and classrooms across the district. They assist special education teachers and students with educational goals. If you see any of these E xtra S pecial P eople today, thank them for all that they do for our schools.
