Handling Stress and Anxiety
for Military Children and Teens
|
|
At the Cohen Clinic, we know that children and teens who are connected to the military have unique needs and experiences compared with their peers of the same age. In addition to every day stresses of growing up, such as school pressure and peer pressure, military children often experience frequent moves, as well as prolonged separations and deployments of family members.
For April–Month of the Military Child–instead of focusing on the challenges children of military families face, we want to take this opportunity to celebrate their resiliency. Military children are amazing when it comes to starting over, making new friends and settling into new communities. For them, home is not a structure, it’s when their family is together.
To help military families be stronger together, we are sharing 3 video tips featuring Shea Lott, Ph.D., Lead Clinician and Helen Lowenstein, LCSW-C on how teenagers and children can best manage their stress and anxiety when faced with challenges like the pandemic, deployment, or peer pressure.
We hope these videos provide your family with useful information on how to help your children be even more amazing, more resilient and gain more strength and confidence in how to manage their feelings.
If your family needs a little more counseling support, our clinic specializes in family therapy and can provide services for your family either as a unit or individually. To schedule an appointment, call us at

Be well and be safe!
