All City-sponsored Community Events Postponed Through May

In an effort to help slow the spread of coronavirus, the City has postponed indefinitely all City-sponsored events through the end of May. The postponement decision includes the popular Springtastic and Public Safety Expo events.   In addition, effective Monday, March 16, the City is suspending all programs and events at the Senior Center and at the Main and Mall branch libraries through the end of May, though at this time those facilities will remain open.   “We are monitoring the situation continuously and will reevaluate the possibility of further postponements when we get closer to June,” said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. “But the evidence we’ve seen so far from other parts of the country tells us the rate of infection in our region is going to get worse before it gets better. We would be negligent not to take these actions.”   The City based its decisions on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that public gatherings at which it is not possible to maintain a six-foot social distance between attendees be postponed.

Get Trusted, Factual, Up-to-Date Information About Coronavirus

We have created a special coronavirus page on the City’s website at www.moval.org/coronavirus . It links to the two most reliable and trusted sources of up-to-date factual information:  the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Riverside County Public Health .  Please don’t believe rumors you may hear or read on social media. It’s vital that we keep calm, educate ourselves and take reasonable precautions to help stop the spread of the virus here in our community. These guidelines from CDC are some of the simplest and most effective ways that each of us can do our part: Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Stay home when you are sick. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

"Race Across the Base" Brings Community Together

It was chilly and early in the morning, but the City's second-annual Race Across the Base brought the community together for the 5k race, 1k fun run, a fitness and resource fair. Here's a video look at this year's very popular City event.

MoVal's "Homeless to Work" Program Featured on ABC7 News

Based on the idea that the best social program is a good job, the City's Homeless to Work program, a partnership with The Salvation Army and Waste Management, has been helping people who are homeless to overcome the barriers they face and rejoin the workforce. So far, 44 people have found their way off the street and back into society. ABC7 News heard about it and filed this story.
