Stedman Families,

Happy Friday to everyone! I want to start by saying thank you to our PTA who organized a grounds clean-up yesterday and provided volunteers to organize and run our first School Store today. Students had a terrific time getting to spend their Stedman Bucks or look at items they might want to start saving up for! The PTA is an integral part of our community and we are grateful for how they show up to serve and support us.

I have a few brief announcments before you can read through the full newsletter. Please note that we are implementing a cutoff once again for early pick-up. If you have to pick a child up early from school, please do so before 3:40pm. After 3:40pm, it is very difficult for us to interrupt classrooms as they are on the verge of cleaning up and preparing for dismissal. We will have a reminder on the front door, but for your own future planning, please pick your child up before 3:40pm for any appointments or wait until dismissal on the playground at 4:10pm. Thank you for your understanding.

I also want to take this opportunity to reiterate the importance of supporting our kids with the safe and healthy use of technology. Be sure to help your child(ren) with safe habits when using technology and the internet (learn more here). In addition, we understand that some children have personal cell phones. We hope that you are able to monitor the content coming into and departing from your child(ren)'s phone as they interact with others. While these devices can create wonderful connection, we know they can also be utilized to spark disconnection. I encourage you to ask your child(ren) to keep their phones at home. If this is not possible, please know that phones and/or smart watches will be collected by teachers/staff during the school day and kept in a safe location. Phones can be a big distraction to learning, and we have many ways for students to reach out to you if necessary. Please reinforce the need to keep phones out of hands during the school day.

I hope to see many of you participating in Bike/Walk to School Day on Wednesday - this is a great way to both get some exercise and keep our air a little cleaner.

¡Feliz viernes a todos! Quiero comenzar agradeciendo a nuestra PTA que organizó una limpieza del terreno ayer y proporcionó voluntarios para organizar y administrar nuestra primera tienda escolar hoy. ¡Los estudiantes se lo pasaron genial gastando sus Stedman Bucks o mirando artículos para los que tal vez quisieran comenzar a ahorrar! La PTA es una parte integral de nuestra comunidad y estamos agradecidos por cómo se presentan para servirnos y apoyarnos.

Tengo algunos anuncios breves antes de que pueda leer el boletín completo. Tenga en cuenta que estamos implementando un límite una vez más para la recogida anticipada. Si tiene que recoger a un niño temprano de la escuela, hágalo antes de las 3:40 p.m. Después de las 3:40 pm, es muy difícil para nosotros interrumpir las aulas ya que están a punto de limpiar y prepararse para la salida. Asegúrese de ayudar a sus hijos con hábitos seguros al usar la tecnología e Internet (obtenga más información aquí). Además, entendemos que algunos niños tienen teléfonos móviles personales. Esperamos que pueda monitorear el contenido que entra y sale del teléfono de su(s) hijo(s) mientras interactúan con otros. Si bien estos dispositivos pueden crear una conexión maravillosa, sabemos que también pueden utilizarse para provocar la desconexión. Le animo a que le pida a su(s) hijo(s) que dejen sus teléfonos en casa. Si esto no es posible, tenga en cuenta que los maestros/personal recogerán los teléfonos y/o relojes inteligentes durante el día escolar y los guardarán en un lugar seguro. Los teléfonos pueden ser una gran distracción para el aprendizaje y tenemos muchas formas para que los estudiantes se comuniquen con usted si es necesario. Por favor, insista en la necesidad de mantener los teléfonos fuera del alcance de la mano durante el día escolar.

Espero ver a muchos de ustedes participando en el Día de ir a la escuela en bicicleta/caminar el miércoles; esta es una excelente manera de hacer algo de ejercicio y mantener nuestro aire un poco más limpio.

Special thanks to Grupo Folklorico Alma Mexicana for joining our 1st Grade students in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month! They shared their beautiful dancing with our students and taught them a few moves as well. See clips in today's Stedman News!

BESS SCREENER - PLEASE TAKE SURVEY

DPS students participate three times per year in the BESS (Behavioral and Emotional Supports Screener) survey. The survey consists of a student AND adult portion. The survey is 28 questions long and takes students about ten minutes to complete. Students in 3rd-5th Grades will take their Fall portion of the survey in class in the next few weeks. These students, and ALL families (regardless of grade), will be asked to take this survey three times throughout the school year to gather baseline and year-long data.

Prior to the student screening, we need parents/guardians to complete their portion of the survey. We are asking that this be completed no later than midnight on September 24th. The survey should take about 5 minutes to complete. To log in, you will need your student’s DPS student ID number and their date of birth. (Families can log in to Parent Portal to see their student's ID number. At the top right corner your student's name and number will be listed after the school name. There will be a drop down to switch between your students. Or you can call the front office to get your student's ID number.)

Los estudiantes de DPS participan tres veces al año en la encuesta BESS (Evaluación de apoyo emocional y conductual). La encuesta consta de una parte para estudiantes Y para adultos. La encuesta tiene 28 preguntas y los estudiantes tardan unos diez minutos en completarla. Los estudiantes de 3.º a 5.º grado tomarán la parte de la encuesta de otoño en clase en las próximas semanas. A estos estudiantes, y a TODAS las familias (independientemente del grado), se les pedirá que respondan esta encuesta tres veces durante el año escolar para recopilar datos de referencia y de todo el año.
