Dear LA Civil Rights Family,

At LA Civil Rights, we celebrate all faiths, all cultures, and all heritages. This month, we’re proud to highlight Hispanic Heritage Month. From now through October 15, we are uplifting Latino leaders in Los Angeles. Through our social media video series, "Latino Heritage Month Spotlights," we are showcasing the inspiring stories of influential Latino leaders, who have significantly contributed to empowering our communities. Follow us on social media to catch these spotlights throughout the month!

Speaking of social media, we're excited to invite you to help us celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of our award-winning #LAForAll campaign. #LAForAll was created to help reduce hate and remind us that #LAisForEveryone! This year, more than a dozen iconic landmarks throughout the City of Los Angeles will be illuminated in #LAForAll colors, providing a stunning backdrop for your next photo. Click here for a full list of landmarks and dates. Want to get involved? Safely snap a creative picture and share it using the hashtag #LAForAllChallenge. Check out our website to learn more about how we stand up to hate through art and inclusion.

LA Civil Rights isn't alone in the fight against hate and discrimination. There are countless advocates at the city, county, and state levels working tirelessly to create a safer and more equitable Los Angeles. Last Friday, I joined our LA County partners Supervisor Holly J Mitchell (SD-2), LA County District Attorney, LA County Human Relations Commission and LA vs. Hate Executive Director Robin Toma, along with California Civil Rights Department Director Kevin Kish, and many other leaders to kick off United Against Hate Week. This partnership represents a diverse coalition of voices committed to spreading awareness on how to report hate crimes and incidents, and ultimately ending hate in our City! Together, we will create a safer #LAForAll!

Keep the faith and keep the fight,

Capri Maddox, Esq.

We're sending a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our three reparations workshops held on September 10, 12, and 14! Our Office of Race and Equity and Reparations Advisory Commission (RAC) hosted in-person working groups to engage and encourage input and community insights to further inform the forthcoming complete reparations recommendations and report.

Nearly 40 passionate participants attended each event. The community members' energy and contributions, along with the work from our staff and volunteers, including from Cal State University, Northridge, and City Planning, made these discussions truly impactful.

A special thank you to Council District 8, Council District 9, and Council District 10 for providing space for the working groups; our incredible speakers, Jacqueline Dupont-Walker, Dr. David Carlisle, President of Charles Drew University, and Tony Tolbert; RAC Commissioners, including Michael Lawson, Khansa Jones-Muhammad, Mandala Kayise, and Virgil Roberts; and dedicated community members, who showed up to lend their voices as we work to repair the wrongdoings of the past.

Stay tuned—there’s more to come!"
