What Are You Giving This Year?

Every year, as the Holiday season approaches, so does the battle royale in my house over what we get the kids for Christmas. My hubby is all about the gifts! He wants to make sure that everyone gets lots and lots of gifts! I am more about time.

Time spent with each other, playing games, visiting, getting to know each other better, teasing and playing, and those late nights when the real personalities come out and we all laugh and laugh 'till we cry! We usually end up compromising, with some gifts for each of the kiddos (and now grandbabies!!) and I get to stay up with everyone into the witching hours.

Its really frustrating for my husband to shop for gifts for me, because I don't want the typical gifts. I want time and experiences with my family. I would much rather go explore a new place, go spend a weekend in a new town, or (with the family in tow) take an afternoon drive down a road we've never driven, than get a brand new air fryer I'll never use, bracelet I'll never wear or other piece of bric-a-brac that will clutter up my house.

My family is growing up, and expanding out. We still have a teenager at home, but our other four are now adulting, and are spread from Moab to Montana, and even as far as Arkansas. We don't get together very often, so we try to make the most of the time that we get together.

This holiday season we will be missing some of our kids as they will be spending the holidays with their in-laws, or needing to stay closer to home due to new employment, but we can still make plans for our family get-togethers next year. And MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, I can convince my hubby that a family vacation IS a good gift!!

We encourage you to spend time with your loved ones during the holidays, whether those loved ones are family by blood or family by choice, they are still loved, and they deserve your time and your attention, as you deserve theirs.

AFTER all of the holiday hijinks are through, and you have given your final hugs, and said your final good byes...and you begin considering your next adventure with your people, may we make some suggestions?

Cataract Canyon

on the Colorado River

Cataract Canyon, through Canyonlands National Park, offers some of the most exciting whitewater in the Western United States. The canyon itself is a wonder, with tall canyon walls, great geology, and star filled skies each night.

If you are looking for a big whitewater experience, look at dates between the last two weeks of May and the first two weeks of June. If you want to experience the beauty of Cataract Canyon with cooler temperatures, look for a trip in September.

Desolation Canyon on the Green River

Desolation Canyon is full of history, both ancient and more modern. This stretch of the Green River is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is thought to be one of the most remote places in the contiguous United States.

The Class II and III rapids in Desolation Canyon make this river stretch perfect for those who are looking for a milder whitewater stretch with great hikes, big sandy beaches and opportunities for trying out our inflatable kayaks.

This stretch is great for groups that cover all ages and experience levels. Everyone from the beginner to the experienced rafter will find something to love in Desolation Canyon.

Westwater Canyon

If you really want to get away, and want some excitement, a great camp-out experience, some good hiking and great whitewater, but you don't have a whole week to spend on the river, Westwater Canyon on the Colorado River is a perfect option.

Combine your 2 or 3 day rafting trip with another day of Moab Adventures, and you've got a perfect short get away. Westwater Canyon's Class II to IV rapids are fun in the spring, late summer and fall. We offer paddle-boats when the water levels are agreeable, and a great time any time!
