CSG West Back on the Road Next Week
CSG West is preparing to conduct its annual state capitol visits, beginning January 17-19 in Wyoming. State visits provide staff an opportunity to connect with legislative leaders, lawmakers, and legislative staff about CSG West programming and available resources and services. Among these is providing information about this year’s 76th CSG West Annual Meeting in Universal City, California, and encouraging eligible members to apply to the 2023 Western Legislative Academy.
State capitol visits are an important component of our outreach efforts, and during the coming months we look forward to visiting with Western members and legislative staff in all thirteen of our member states.

Physician Assistants Model Compact Legislation Available for States
In June 2019, a joint initiative by The Council of State Governments, Federation of State Medical Boards, American Academy of Physician Associates, and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, was created to develop an interstate compact for the interstate practice of physician assistants (PAs). The partner organizations met as a working group to develop the compact language, while engaging stakeholders within the PA profession and the healthcare industry to solicit input.
One of the major motivations behind the desire to develop an interstate compact for physician assistants is the success of other compacts for healthcare professions, such as the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) and the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) for physicians, both enacted in nearly 40 states. NLC Director, James Puente, presented during the Workforce Development Committee session at the 2021 CSG West Annual Meeting, examining the compact’s growth and impact within the nursing profession.
The working group approved the final version of the physician assistant compact (PA Compact) in October 2022, which is being made available to states for 2023 legislative sessions. CSG and the project partners will provide educational and technical assistance for stakeholders and states interested in the compact. Supporting resources and information about the compact may be found at www.pacompact.org.
