Communion Statement

The Lord's Supper is celebrated here in the confession and glad confidence that our Lord, as He says, gives not only bread and wine, but His very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sin. In joyful obedience to the clear teaching of our Lord Jesus those are invited to His table who trust His words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us. They show forth His death until He comes. Because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and so are unable to receive the Sacrament are invited to meditate on God's Word in the distribution hymns and pray for the day when divisions will have ceased. If you wish to receive communion in your pew, please inform an usher.

Stewardship - An Act of Faith

Exodus 17:3 – “But the people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, ‘Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?’” Even the Israelites, who saw miracles with their own eyes, fell into unbelief and fear. From this distance we can see how foolish their worry is. How foolish will our worries appear from the distance of eternity? The Lord cared for them, and He will care for us.

St. Paul Operetta

Due to the snow day today, March 10, the 5-8th grade performance of "Promise U" will be rescheduled for Friday, March 17, 2023. The performances will take place at 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm in St. Paul's auditorium. There is no cost for the event, all are welcome.

Easter Flowers

This year, Easter lilies and other spring flowers can be purchased by individuals in the congregation. A sign-up sheet, envelopes & payment box are in the narthex to purchase Easter plants. Checks can be made payable to Begick Nursery. If you would like to designate your flowers to be in honor or in memory of someone, there is a place to do so on the sign-up sheet. The deadline to order flowers is Sunday, March 26. Flowers will adorn the chancel area on April 9 for the Resurrection of our Lord; memorials will be printed in that bulletin. Tuesday Morning Women's Bible Study

Youth Group Movie Night and Hot Cocoa Bar!

Attention all 8th grade and high school aged youth: Sunday March 12 at the Ministry Center from 5:00 -7:00pm, will be a hot cocoa bar and movie night! There will be popcorn, snacks, and a huge variety of hot chocolate flavors and toppings. Invite a friend and bring a mug!

Easter Egg Hunt is planned for Saturday, April 1

Plans are underway for an outdoor Easter Egg Hunt on April 1, 2023 (Rain date April 8). Candy donations are needed to fill eggs. Small, wrapped candy that will fit inside a small plastic egg is preferred. We are also asking for volunteers to fill eggs. We will be meeting on March 26, after church, in the school auditorium at 11:30 a.m. to stuff eggs as a group. POSITION OPENING | Part-Time Second Grade Teacher

Being blessed by an increase in enrollment, St. Paul Lutheran School, Bay City (Frankenlust), is seeking a Part-Time Second Grade Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. The position’s responsibilities include leading instruction in second grade Reading/Spelling and Math. Highly qualified candidates should have a current Michigan Teaching Certificate or be willing to obtain one. March is Reading Month!

Our St. Paul School is planning some fun activities for Reading Month in March, and we will have weekly prize drawings. We are looking for $5 gift card donations (e.g. Five Below, Target, McDonalds, Culver's, Walmart), or monetary donations. Please contact Andrea Dent if you have any questions.

Listening Event - Board of Directors

The Michigan District Board of Directors is hosting a Listening Event for the North and East Region on Monday, March 13 at Our Savior, Bad Axe. Pastors, church workers, church leaders, and laity are all welcome to attend.

The Board seeks input in the following areas:

What should the Board know about ministry in this region?

What unmet needs do the congregations have?

What mission opportunities exist in the region?

The findings from this event will aid the Board of Directors in its responsibilities towards strategic direction of the District.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

Last call! Please contact Kristen Glasser 989-529-2962 to register your family for Bay City's St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 19th at 2:00 p.m. Limit of 25 children riding on the St. Paul float. Older children may walk with their parent. Wear your favorite GREEN attire! A waiver must be signed prior to the event and a parent is required to accompany their child.

Good Friday Service

The Tri-City Good Friday Service will be held on April 7, 2023, at the Horizon’s Conference Center at 6200 State Street in Saginaw Township at 1 pm. The Reverend David A. Davis will be the guest speaker. He is the President of the Michigan District-Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. To underwrite the cost of the service, we are seeking support from congregation members as we have done in the past. If you have donated in the past, you will receive a letter in your mailbox at church or by regular mail. If you have not donated in the past and would like to, please contact your congregation representative, Vaughn Begick at 989 295-0209. Checks should be made out to “Good Friday Service”. Thank you for any support that you can give, and invite your relatives, friends, and unchurched acquaintances to join us at the service.

Mid-Michigan Family Bible Study

March Madness! No, we aren’t going to talk about NCAA Basketball, but we will be tackling madness! Anger! All that can make us "ticking time bombs!" Does our Lord have anything to say about anger and the Christian life? What can be done with anger to make the devil’s plans blow up in his face? How can anger be an instrument used by the Holy Spirit to strengthen the Christian life and Church? Let’s have our own version of March Madness for the Mid-Michigan Family Bible Study on Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at Grace (303 Ruth Street, Auburn)! No one will be a loser! Everyone's a winner! Music at St. Lorenz presents A CONCERT IN BLUE

Join the St. Lorenz Wind Ensemble and Spartan Big Band for an afternoon of jazz, swing, blues, and Gospel music, including Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue", Glenn Miller favorites, and tunes from the movie "Up", on Sunday, March 12, at 3:00 p.m. in the Worship and Event Center, 850 W. Genesee, in Frankenmuth. The whole family will enjoy this free concert.

Music Department Tour Home Concert

The VLHS Music Department will present a Lenten worship concert on Sunday, March 19 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Reese. This service is the final concert of a 5-day, 6-concert tour through Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, and Michigan. We invite you to join us as we reflect on God's 'Love Unknown' - the overwhelming and incomprehensible love the Father showed us through his Son.

Exodus 17:1–7

All the congregation of the people of Israel moved on from the wilderness of Sin by stages, according to the commandment of the LORD, and camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?” But the people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?” So Moses cried to the LORD, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.” And the LORD said to Moses, “Pass on before the people, taking with you some of the elders of Israel, and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink.” And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the quarreling of the people of Israel, and because they tested the LORD by saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”

Epistle

Romans 5:1–8

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

[Jesus] came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour. There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty forever. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”
