Thank You Trinity College Men's Basketball

Last Saturday morning a team from Trinity College came to Trinity Church as part of their annual "Do It Day" event where students from various athletic teams engage with the community and do service projects around the city. The men's basketball team came to Trinity Church and worked enthusiastically on a variety of indoor and outdoor tasks. The indoor tasks included moving the altar and other items in the church from their summer locations and removing surplus things from a number of other rooms in the building. The outdoor work focused on tidying up the beds along Sigourney Street and the Close as well as trimming weeds and brush behind the church and the Memorial Garden.

2025 Calendar Sharing

Perhaps you are receiving more 2025 calendars than you can use? Or do you need a 2025 calendar? Trinity is the place for you!

There is a box on the side table in Goodwin Hall for our parishioners to drop off or pick up a 2025 calendar. Calendars of all sizes are welcome - wall, desk or pocket size.

New Education for Ministry Group Forming for 2024-25

The EfM group that meets at St. James’s Episcopal Church in West Hartford is looking for folks who want to read and reflect on scripture, explore and nurture their faith, and their call to the Christian life and service where they live, work and play—all in small group setting of 6 to 12 people, studying, conversing, exchanging our experiences as articulate seekers of God in our daily lives. The program is structured by the University of the South School of Theology and administered at the parish level. For more information, contact Ron Ward, group mentor.

E-mail: rtwtmr@comcast.net 860 463 8057.

Vestry Meeting

Tuesday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m.

Vestry meetings are open to any member of the parish. Members of the parish are especially invited to bring concerns and feedback to the Vestry during the “Feedback from Congregation” section of the meeting which begins at about 7:20/7:30. (The first 15-20 minutes of the meeting are a time of reflection and connection).

Members who choose to do so are welcome to come only to the beginning of the meeting to share concerns or are welcome to stay for the entire meeting. Please note that if there are conversations that are confidential in nature, visitors to the meeting will be asked to excuse themselves for that portion and then will be invited back in.

GHIAA: THE GREATER HARTFORD INTERFAITH ACTION ALLIANCE

Have you ever felt like you would like to make a difference in some of the social justice issues troubling our world, but you just don’t know where to begin? We hear almost every day about the many problems going on in our communities. It is easy to get overwhelmed just thinking about them – homelessness, the lack of affordable housing, unequal funding for education in our poorest cities and towns, to name just a few. We find ourselves asking, “What can I do?” We don’t know where to begin.

The Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance, or “GHIAA,” exists to help us answer that very question. GHIAA, an alliance of more than 50 faith-based communities (including Trinity Church), provides detailed guidance on how we can make our voices heard on issues of social justice.

Please plan to join us in the Library on September 29 following the Eucharist to learn how GHIAA works. We will be joined by Marika Stewart, our GHIAA support person. She will share more about the GHIAA process and our congregation’s involvement.

GHIAA Assemblies

Please save the dates for two upcoming GHIAA (Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance) assemblies!

Internal Delegates Assembly: Issues Update and Action Prep (register here)

Tuesday, September 17, 6:30-8:30 pm

Unitarian Society of Hartford, 50 Bloomfield Ave., Hartford

Led by our GHIAA Strategy Team, Clergy Caucus, and Research Action Team members, we will share updates from our ongoing work to develop campaigns around housing affordability, fiscal policy, and racial and religious hate. We will join together in prayer and ritual and song. We will bless the turnout commitments of our member institutions and share resources for you to use as you build momentum in your congregations toward our major campaign launch assembly in November (see below). And we will celebrate the power we are building together for justice!

Major Public Assembly: 2025 Campaign Launch

Thursday, November 21, 6:30-8:30 pm

Weaver High School, 415 Granby St., Hartford

Remember the 2022 Power Summit? We will gather again with hundreds of leaders from across our region to ground ourselves in our shared values, to launch our new slate of issue campaigns, and to seek public commitment from elected officials and power brokers. This is a significant public action and a chance to demonstrate GHIAA’s power to win on the issues that matter in our lives. Turnout from every GHIAA institution will be essential! Stay tuned for updates from your organizer.

Intercessory Prayer at Sunday Worship

Have you wondered why someone is standing in the North aisle of the sanctuary on Sundays during the Eucharist service? That person is a member of Trinity's Intercessory Prayer Team. He or she is there to offer individual prayer with you whenever you are so moved, whether because of your own or a loved one's need, or because of the desire to express gratitude, or for any other reason. Together, your prayer companion and you can seek healing, confidence, strength, comfort.

And if you are interested in joining the Intercessory Prayer Team, and share in the joy and privilege of sharing your neighbors' journeys', please call Anne Rapkin at 860-521-5002 or anne.rapkin@gmail.com.

Trinity Book Club

Looking for an informative and entertaining summer book? Try Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson! It's "a masterpiece of the imagination, using fictional eyewitness accounts to tell the story of how climate change will affect us all." The date for our gathering to discuss The Ministry of the Future has changed: we will meet on October 11 at 7 pm at the home of Heather Kramer. All are welcome to attend Book Group, whether for one time or many! Please let Heather know if you plan to come (heatherjk@1989@gmail.com).
