It's Not Every Day You Turn 60: Let's Celebrate Together!
2023 Is EA&G's 60th Year: Help Celebrate on March 21
Make Your Annual Meeting Dinner Reservations Now

Our long-time chefs, Marylou Hart and Sharon Elwood, are hanging up their aprons. This well-deserved retirement will necessitate changes. Because we wanted to continue the dinner tradition, at least for 2023, we have turned to a professional caterer this year, contracting with Lombardi's for a delicious Italian buffet.
Keynote Speaker: Lorene Edwards Forkner

Here's the menu:
Stuffed Mushrooms, Caprese Skewers, Mixed Green Salad, White Balsamic Vinaigrette, Creamy Gorgonzola, Bread & Roasted Garlic, Chicken Marsala Medallions, Grilled Salmon Picatta, Garlic Butter Fettuccine, Seasonal Vegetables

The $35 charge includes wine, beer, cake (it's a birthday party, after all) and door prizes.
The venue remains the same: Floral Hall in Forest Park, 802 Mukilteo Boulevard, Everett.
The bar opens at 5 p.m., and books by our guest speaker will be for sale.

The Annual Meeting is an important one--it's where we elect our officers, let you know what our plans are for the future, and fulfill a legal requirement. And--if you can remember back to 2019 when we held our last in-person annual meeting--it is a very enjoyable event.

To reserve your place on March 21, please purchase your dinner tickets on our website by March 4, and be sure to renew your membership before that date. Or to reserve your tickets by mail, send your check to EA&G, P.O. Box 13014, Everett, WA 98206-13014. Because we have to pay the caterers in advance, we cannot accommodate walk-ins.

If you cannot attend the meeting but want to cast your vote for our slate of officers, please know that the slate will be in the March 1 newsletter with a link to vote by email.

New Board Members Robert Christensen and Tracie Dessart
Both Robert and Tracie are currently filling vacant seats on our board. Tracie's name appears on the slate of candidates; Robert's vacant position has not yet expired.
Robert and his wife Susan moved to Everett in 2021 and started volunteering at the Arboretum almost immediately. Even though he didn't have a lot of experience in gardening in the PNW, he caught on quickly and learned that no planting is permanent and the folks at the Arboretum are all very friendly and helpful to newcomers. His favorite project so far is the new Small Tree Walk as it involved digging a lot of holes and learning about new plants.
Tracie resides in Everett with her husband and four children. She is a Midwest native who moved to Washington in and fell in love with the landscape.  She’s a few credits away from a horticulture degree from Edmonds College. Tracie came to the Evergreen Arboretum as an intern in the summer of 2022. She is works at Sunnyside Nursery, is a caregiver for with kids and adults with special needs, and does container design and landscaping. When she has free time she enjoys hiking, camping, kayaking, and family adventures.
The first official special event for our 60th anniversary begins April 1 with "Out on a Limb: Poetry in the Trees."

The project began last fall with a call for short poems with a nature theme to be used in the Arboretum during April, National Poetry Month. Appropriately enough, 60 people entered a poem or two in our contest. Poets Rae Armantrout, a Pulitzer Prize winning poet, and Kevin Craft, English instructor at Everett Community College and editor of Poetry Northwest, generously agreed to act as judges.

Volunteers have been working for about six weeks to stamp the winning poems into clay tablets which will be glazed and fired, and then hung in the Arboretum for the month of April.

We hope you will join us for the opening day reception, featuring Washington State's Poet Laureate, Rena Priest, and Rae Armantrout, one of our esteemed judges. We'll begin in the Classroom Building at 2 p.m.
Thank You, Elizabeth Person, The Everett Sketcher

This beautiful watercolor of the Arboretum entrance was featured in the spring 2023 issue of Sound & Summit. We thank Elizabeth for her kind words about the Arboretum. And, if you love this image as much as we do, contact Elizabeth via her website, elizabethperson.com. The Arboretum bought a number of note cards with this image on them to use for Arboretum thank you notes, and you can, too.
