News from The Inn of Southern Arizona

Dear Friends of the Inn of Southern Arizona,

It is with great humility that we write to share the news that after seven years of service to our migrating neighbors in Tucson, the Board of Directors of the Inn of Southern Arizona has made the difficult decision to dissolve the organization and close The Inn.

We are committed to moving forward in a way that is ethical, transparent, and legally and financially sound. While we recognize that the need for our services still exists in our community, navigating through the headwinds of change in both funding and migrant flow has been quite difficult. This difficulty has led us to the decision that ceasing our operations to redirect our assets and energies elsewhere will have a bigger impact on our community than spending additional months trying to reorganize and reopen in a new space.

We have engaged the help of a local attorney who is experienced in working with nonprofit organizations, including helping them close. With her, we are developing a plan for distributing our assets (the money in our account, as well as fridges and freezers, the van, donated clothing and hygiene items, etc.) to other like-minded charitable organizations. The attorney will help us file the correct paperwork to legally dissolve the organization under Arizona law, and help us ensure our taxes are in order.

When our Board of Directors gathered last week, we shared many stories and memories from The Inn over the years. So many of those stories were about you: our faithful volunteers, donors, and supporters. You are at the heart of what allowed this organization to live out its ministry: using ingredients on hand to create a tasty soup for our guests in our first congregate setting; handing out hot dogs to delighted guests in our first hotel setting; making music with our guests in our final hotel. Together, we fulfilled our mission: to provide our guests with temporary shelter, care, essential items, and assistance with travel.

You can expect to hear from us once more at the conclusion of the closing, which may take between three and six months. If you are a recurring donor, we will be canceling your recurring donation through our Give Lively platform. Thank you for all you have given to The Inn.

The Inn of Southern Arizona has always responded by turning toward the biggest need, and right now other established organizations are the best place for our assistance. The Inn is closing its doors, but not its heart. With you, our valued community, we will continue to love and serve our migrating neighbors, and the vulnerable and in need wherever we meet them.

With Gratitude,

The Board of the Inn of Southern Arizona
