El pasado fin de semana se estrenó la obra El Nogalar en el Teatro de las Américas con excelente respuesta del público. Desde los ojos de dos jóvenes trabajadores de una propiedad con huerto de nogales que se debaten entre la amenaza y la supervivencia, la obra muestra una estampa de los tiempos más violentos que vivió México en la historia reciente. Las Galván, dos hermanas y su madre que vuelven a El Nogalar después de dilapidar su fortuna, buscan retomar el control de sus olvidadas tierras pretendiendo que todo sigue igual. Ante este sombrío paisaje, cada uno de los personajes recurre a las memorias de antaño para encontrar las fuerzas y seguir adelante por el camino que cada quien tomará. Con diálogos en español y en inglés, la obra logra momentos muy emocionantes por la naturalidad de las actuaciones del elenco bajo la dirección de Robert Sánchez. El personaje de Maite (Adah Chávez) logra convencer transmitiendo la prepotencia y autocomplacencia de una minoría adinerada educada con prejuicios de clase, mientras López (Joaquín Luna) es un personaje que lucha por sacudirse la sumisión al rol de servidumbre que por generaciones le ha sido impuesto a su familia, y quien con la ayuda de Dunia (Adriana Castro), una mucama avispada y ambiciosa, comenzará a abrir los ojos a una nueva realidad forjada a balazos y terror. Valeria (Patricia Soria), sueña con “casarse bien”, y a la vez salvar a la familia de una catástrofe financiera urgiendo a Maite, su madre, a abrazar la cordura que nunca tuvo, pues como niña rica que fue, nunca la necesitó. Anita (Soleá Heredia) es el personaje que, perdida en una tierra que apenas recuerda, entre gente con la cual batalla para comunicarse debido a que no domina el español, hace las preguntas que podrían parecer obvias, sobre temas de los cuales nadie quiere hablar, convirtiéndose en la guía que lleva al público a conocer los detalles de la historia de esta familia en crisis que perdió la brújula hace tiempo ya. Lo anterior conforma un drama con destellos de comedia que logra divertir mientras retrata una oscura situación que viven aun muchas comunidades en México donde la violencia es una pesadilla irreal y los tiempos pasados son sueños amables que aligeran las horas como dulce de nuez. | |
Last weekend the play El Nogalar premiered at the Teatro de las Américas with an excellent response from the public. From the eyes of two young workers on a property with a pecan orchard who are torn between threat and survival, the play shows a snapshot of the most violent times that Mexico has experienced in recent history. Las Galván, two sisters and their mother who return to El Nogalar after squandering their fortune, seek to regain control of their forgotten lands, pretending that everything remains the same. Faced with this gloomy landscape, each of the characters resorts to the memories of yesteryear to find the strength and continue on the path that each one will take. With dialogues in Spanish and English, the play achieves very exciting moments due to the naturalness of the performances of the cast under the direction of Robert Sánchez. The character of Maite (Adah Chávez) manages to convince by transmitting the arrogance and complacency of a wealthy minority educated with class prejudices, while López (Joaquín Luna) is a character who struggles to shake off the submission to the role of servitude that has been handed down for generations, imposed on his family, and who with the help of Dunia (Adriana Castro), a smart and ambitious maid, will begin to open his eyes to a new reality forged with bullets and terror. Valeria (Patricia Soria), dreams of "marrying well" and at the same time saving the family from a financial catastrophe, urging Maite, her mother, to embrace the sanity she never had, because as a rich girl she never needed it. Anita (Soleá Heredia) is the character who, lost in a land she barely remembers, among people with whom she struggles to communicate because she is not fluent in Spanish, asks questions that might seem obvious, about topics that no one wants to talk about, becoming the guide that leads the public to learn the details of the history of this family in crisis that lost its compass a long time ago. The foregoing makes up a drama with flashes of comedy that manages to amuse while portraying a dark situation that many communities in Mexico still live where violence is an unreal nightmare and past times are kind dreams that lighten the hours like pecan candy. | |

El pasado sábado tuvo su última sesión el Taller de Cine del Teatro de las Américas 2023. Durante 12 sesiones los talleristas hemos trabajado en la creación de un cortometraje de ficción llamado Nuri. Nuri tendrá una duración de aproximadamente 20 minutos. Actualmente estamos trabajando en la edición final. Pronto anunciaremos la fecha y el lugar donde se llevará a cabo el estreno de Nuri. Por lo pronto, agradecemos quienes han mostrado interés en este proyecto y al apoyo de tanta gente que ha confiado en él. Muchas gracias. Continuará…

Last Saturday, the 2023 Teatro de las Américas Film Workshop had its last session. During 12 sessions, the workshop participants worked on the creation of a fictional short film called Nuri. Nuri will last approximately 20 minutes. We are currently working on the final edition. Soon we will announce the date and place where the premiere of Nuri will take place. For now, we thank those who have shown interest in this project and the support of so many people who have trusted it. Thank you so much. To be continued…
