  • Monthly Gatherings at the Simons Cafe

There has been a lot of interest in providing a forum for casual interactions among those working on environmental issues on campus, and so the C4E is organizing a monthly lunch gathering at Simon's Cafe for the spring semester, on the first Tuesday of every month (Jan 7, Feb 4, March 4, April 1, and May 6).

There is no agenda for these lunches and everyone will pay for their own food, but we will either try and reserve a side room or simply snag one of the larger tables for those that attend. Everyone (including students!) is welcome to join.

C4E Town Hall: Reimagining Academic Programs

On Monday, November 4, Stony Brook faculty and staff gathered at the C4E Town Hall: Reimagining Academic Programs. Attendees worked in groups to explore intersections between Stony Brook’s strengths, unique student opportunities, and the evolving needs of current and future SBU students. Participants emphasized SBU’s reputation for recruiting high-quality students and its strength as a flagship institution with excellence in STEM, climate change, and interdisciplinary opportunities. They highlighted the New York Climate Exchange, incubator companies, Southampton campus and study abroad opportunities unique to SBU. A key theme that emerged was the demand for an affordable, high-quality education that prepares students for successful and impactful careers post-graduation. Attendees identified several strategies to enhance current academic programming, including providing a high-level mentorship program with alumni and industry professionals, requiring collaborative dissertation chapters, and creating a topic-centered university consortium to get students involved. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this worthwhile effort.
