Outliers and Outlaws

The Eugene Lesbian History Project and documentary film

December 2024

"It's like a wave coming into shore." - Eugene Lesbian participant

On Saturday Nov 16th, Outliers and Outlaws premiered at the QDOC Film Festival in Portland to a sold-out audience of nearly 400 celebratory viewers. A standing ovation, lots of tears and laughter, and a sing-along later, we are overjoyed by the response. Since the festival premiere, we have received an outpouring of requests and appreciation for this story. From a high school queer/straight alliance who will share excerpts of the film over lunch, to several elder community groups, and international film festivals. We are moving Outliers forward - and quickly.

Our next screening: Cinema 21 in Portland for a four-day run this December

Dec 15th - 3pm

Dec 16th - 6pm

Dec 17th - 3:30pm

Dec 18th - 6pm

Please purchase tickets early and help us spread the word. Our film lives and breathes when you share the word.

We have such an immense feeling of gratitude for our friends at QDOC who made this world premiere possible. QDOC sold out our screening a week in advance, promoted us to the local press, and celebrated the Eugene Lesbians loudly. Molly, Deb, Melinda and the whole team - thank you! Look out for their programming, throughout the year in Portland.

Highlights

Our festival event was exuberant! Director Courtney Hermann led everyone in a sing-along to the closing song of the film, "Song of the Soul" by Cris Williamson.

Questions from the audience included: "What advice would you have for young queer people trying to survive and make change right now" and "How much time did the Eugene Lesbians spend naked." The answer to the last question - "Always. Unless we were going into town."

Outliers and Outlaws narrator Jody Blyle (Team Dresch) and bandmate Kaia Wilson ran into the Eugene Lesbians and Producer Judith Raiskin in the 'ladies lounge' of the Hollywood Theater - a perfect place for a group photo, of course.

Our poster and animations are created by the talented Motion Graphics artist Kaci Smith. Local baker and super-fan (and Producer G. Chesler's partner) Hazel Bakery PDX made a cake - an exact replica - for our after party!

We have more photos on our Instagram for all to enjoy and share.
