Data shows Saskatoon has the most artists in SK

With 1,400 professional artists, Saskatoon has the largest number and highest concentration of artists in Saskatchewan, says an analysis of Statistics Canada’s 2021 long-form census by Hill Strategies. The August Hill Strategies article "Statistical Profile of Artists in Saskatoon in 2021" shows that there are 3,900 professional artists who reside in Saskatchewan, which makes up 1.9 per cent of the 202,900 artists in Canada. One in every 38 Saskatchewan workers and every 23 Canadian workers has a cultural occupation.

Saskatoon has the most artists in Saskatchewan and is home to over one-third of the province’s artists. In the city, one in every 110 workers is a professional artist. The median employment income of Saskatoon artists was just $9,700 in 2020, which is not only slightly below the provincial average, but also about one-quarter of the median employment income of all Saskatoon workers in the same year. The statistical analysis determined that Saskatoon artists appear to have significant support from other members of their households. Read more
