The 49th Annual Snow Ball

Liturgical Ministry Training

Lector Training

We will be holding a training session for new volunteers or anyone wanting a refresher on Monday, February 6th from 6:30pm - 7:30pm. Anyone 6th Grade through Adults are welcome.

Sacristan Training

Are you interested in assisting the Priest before and after Mass by preparing and cleaning the holy vessels as a Sacristan? We will be holding a training session for new volunteers or anyone wanting a refresher on Tuesday, February 7th from 7:00pm - 8:00 pm Anyone who has been confirmed may attend.

What do they do: Sacristan

The Sacristan provides invaluable assistance to the Priest, allowing him to enter into his own prayer before, during and after Mass, by preparing the gifts of the altar. The main duties of the Sacristan are to set up the host, wine and vessels needed to celebrate the Mass and then to clean them and return them afterwards. Sacristans also maintain Altar Linen cleanliness and refill candle oil.

To be a Sacristan, you must be a confirmed Catholic and complete a short training session. Feel free to sign up for the training if you are interested in volunteering at Weekday, Weekend or special Masses or even if you're just interested in what a Sacristan does.

Usher Training

We are in need of additional Hospitality Ministers to join our Usher Team! Volunteers are needed for all Masses, but specifically for 7:30am and 12:00pm Masses. We will be holding a training session for new volunteers or anyone wanting a refresher on Thursday, February 9th from 6:30pm - 7:30pm. Anyone high school age through adults are welcome.

What do they do: Usher

The Ushers provide hospitality to all who attend our Masses, welcoming visitors, answering questions and assisting those who need help. Ushers guide guests to pews, direct people to the Cry Room and bathrooms, lead the congregation to the Eucharist, pass around the collection baskets and collect the offering.

To be an Usher, you must be in at least 8th Grade and complete a short training session. We encourage all parishioners to consider this wonderful ministry.

Saint Blaise - Blessing of the Throat

Catholics often participate in the tradition of having their throats blessed. To do this, the priest consecrates two candles, generally by a prayer, and then holds each in a crossed position on the throat of the person being blessed. At the same time, the following blessing is given: “Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from ailments of the throat and from every other evil. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” Why does the blessing of the throat take place on St. Blaise Day? St. Blaise, a physician, and bishop, asked God to cure a child who was choking to death on a fish bone and the child’s life was saved. Thus, St. Blaise is the patron saint of healthy throats.

The Blessing of Throats will take place at Curé of Ars Parish after all Masses the weekend of February 4-5.

We need your help.

Volunteers leave the church at 7:30 am on the third Monday of each month to serve lunch to the hungry in Kansas City, Kansas. Volunteers are also needed to provide food items such as taco meat, shredded cheese, baked goods, and fresh fruit.
