Construction Activities - March 2023

Crews are installing handrails and working on underground utilities at the eastbound (EB) and westbound (WB) on-ramps. Crews are also installing fencing on the Central Avenue bridge and will begin to construct median islands on Central Avenue. Intermittent lane closures are scheduled to occur nightly from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on SR 60 at Central Avenue between the on- and off-ramps Monday, March 6 through Friday, March 10.

At times work throughout the corridor may be loud and cause vibration. Please remember all construction is dynamic and the schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

In an effort to improve traffic flow along Central Avenue and access to SR 60, the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) and the City of Chino, in cooperation with the Caltrans District 8, will widen the Central Avenue interchange at the SR 60 bridge to accommodate three through-lanes and double left-turn lanes in both direction and will widen the existing eastbound and westbound on-ramps to SR 60 from one lane to two through lanes and a carpool lane. The project is designed to relieve congestion and improve traffic flow as well as address the increased travel associated with existing and planned development in the City of Chino. The project also will modify the bridge to meet seismic requirements and provide American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps and tactile sensors at intersections where crosswalks are included.

Walking on the freeway is unsafe. In case of an emergency, please dial 9-1-1. For non-emergency Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) services, call the California Highway Patrol (CHP) at (909) 428-5400 or use the nearest Call Box for assistance. Drivers or passengers of a disabled vehicle stopped on a freeway may walk to the nearest exit, in either direction, on the same side of the freeway upon which the vehicle is disabled, or to the nearest Call Box for assistance. For the safety of the public and our crews, unapproved access to construction sites and property related to project construction is prohibited.
